On April 2nd, we observe World Autism Awareness Day, a global initiative dedicated to increasing understanding and acceptance of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

This day serves as a reminder of the importance of early detection and research in understanding ASD. One significant advancement in this field is the Folate Receptor Alpha Autoantibody Test (FRAT), which detects the presence of folate receptor alpha autoantibodies (FRAAs).

A recent study published in the Journal of Personalized Medicine has identified a significant link between ASD and FRAAs, which are associated with cerebral folate deficiency—a condition observed in some individuals with autism. The FRAT test is a valuable tool that allows researchers and clinicians to explore potential biological factors related to ASD, helping to expand our knowledge of the condition.

This World Autism Awareness Day, we recognize the importance of scientific progress and encourage continued research efforts to enhance early detection and deepen our understanding of autism. https://bit.ly/4iK0gPQ

We are thrilled to announce that R.E.D. Laboratories will be participating as an exhibitor at the upcoming ILADS European Scientific Conference, scheduled for May 1-3, 2025, in Lisbon, Portugal.

The ILADS (International Lyme and Associated Diseases Society) European Scientific Conference is a premier event dedicated to the appropriate diagnosis and treatment of Lyme and associated diseases. This year's conference will focus on the One Health concept, integrating various medical specialties involved in treating Lyme and tick-borne illnesses.

Conference Highlights:

* European Vector-Borne Illness Fundamentals Course: A half-day program on May 1, introducing the newly-created course.
* Scientific Presentations: Full-day sessions on May 2 and 3, covering various aspects of Lyme and tick-borne illnesses.
* Networking Opportunities: Evening social events with physician leaders from around the globe.
* Exhibition Hall: Showcasing medical services and innovations.

We are also pleased to share that Tanja Mijatovic, PhD, will be presenting on "Neglected Infections and Gastrointestinal Dysregulations in Patients with Active Borrelia Infections," providing valuable insights into this critical yet often overlooked aspect of Lyme disease.

We invite all attendees to visit our booth to learn about our latest advancements in diagnostic tools and research methods for Lyme disease and co-infections. Our team will be on hand to discuss how our innovations can support your practice and improve patient outcomes.

Don't miss this opportunity to engage with leaders in the field and deepen your understanding of Lyme disease. We look forward to seeing you in Lisbon!

The article "Lyme Disease as a Potential Precursor to Anti-N-Methyl-D-Aspartate Receptor Encephalitis: A Case Report" presents a case of a 74-year-old man who developed anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis following Lyme disease. Initially, the patient experienced back pain, myalgia, and memory impairment, which progressed to confusion, behavioral changes, and speech difficulties. Laboratory tests confirmed Borrelia burgdorferi infection, the causative agent of Lyme disease, and subsequent testing revealed the presence of anti-NMDA receptor antibodies in both serum and cerebrospinal fluid. This case suggests that Lyme disease may trigger autoimmune responses resulting in anti-NMDA receptor encephalitis, highlighting the importance of considering this potential complication in patients with neuroborreliosis.

This case further emphasizes the need for early consideration of Lyme disease in the differential diagnosis to avoid prolonged and costly hospitalizations. Finally, late diagnosis and treatment of Lyme disease can result in additional autoimmune complications, including myocarditis and thyroiditis. https://bit.ly/4igA0wt
