🧬 Brouiller le radar pour empêcher les métastases 🧬

➡ On peut se demander pourquoi un cancer du sein peut métastaser dans le cerveau, les poumons, le foie et dans les os, mais jamais dans le lobe de l’oreille ou dans le gros orteil ?

➡ Pierre Sonveaux, Directeur de Recherches FNRS, Promoteur Welbio et Télévie UCLouvain – Université catholique de Louvain et son équipe publient un nouvel article dans la r***e scientifique "Cancers".

➡ Ils y expliquent qu'ils sont parvenus à identifier un senseur responsable de l’arrêt dans le cerveau des cellules tumorales de cancer du sein, ce qui leur permet de développer des métastases cérébrales.

➡ L’intérêt ? Sans ce senseur, les cellules tumorales ne s’arrêtent pas dans le cerveau et ne développent donc pas de métastases cérébrales.

➡ Si le senseur Cox7b apparaît malheureusement difficile à cibler en thérapie anti-cancéreuse, la compréhension de ce nouveau mécanisme permettra de systématiser la découverte de familles de senseurs et, c’est l’objectif, de trouver in fine des cibles exploitables.

➡ En empêchant la survenue des métastases, les thérapies à visée curative pourraient être utilisées plus longtemps, et les chances de guérison seraient donc accrues.

🆕 Hygieia, c’est parti ! Ce projet novateur a pour objectif de répondre aux énormes défis de la pandémie de Covid-19, mais aussi à d’autres situations pandémiques ou de maladies complexes non-infectieuses.
Cette étude, qui répond à un appel du Covid Solidarity Fund, repose notamment sur le potentiel énorme de l’intelligence artificielle. 👏 Elle est soutenue à hauteur de 2.700.000€ par le mécénat d’entreprise, via la Fondation Saint-Luc.

In a publication in the American Journal of Pathology, researchers from the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc and the IREC - UCLouvain have demonstrated that the placenta is not susceptible to SARS-CoV-2 infection at term. Their findings make the transmission to the neonate unlikely to occur around the delivery and are therefore reassuring for all the pregnant women.
