🎗️ Le 4 février, c’est la Journée mondiale contre le cancer

Grâce aux innovations médicales, de plus en plus de personnes vivent avec et après un cancer. Beaucoup d’entre elles souhaitent rester actives et continuer à participer à la société.

Pourtant, notre système actuel ne répond pas suffisamment à leurs besoins : soutien limité au travail, sécurité sociale inadaptée et manque d’accompagnement personnalisé.

The New Faces of Cancer appellent à :

✔️ l’intégration structurelle des infirmiers en oncologie et des coachs de carrière
✔️ un filet de sécurité sociale flexible favorisant la reprise progressive du travail
✔️ une meilleure information pour les patients et les employeurs
✔️ la participation des patients et des aidants dans la définition des politiques

❗Il est temps que la prise en charge s’adapte à la réalité d’aujourd’hui et soutienne pleinement la participation sociale pendant et après le traitement.

🎗️ 4 februari is het Wereldkankerdag

Dankzij innovatieve behandelingen leven steeds meer mensen met en na kanker, en velen willen, wanneer het kan, blijven werken. Niet omdat het moet, maar omdat ze willen blijven deelnemen aan onze samenleving.

Toch hinkt het beleid achterop. Patiënten botsen op een verouderd sociaal systeem, beperkte ondersteuning en weinig begeleiding op de werkvloer.

The New Faces of Cancer pleiten voor:

✔️ structurele inzet van onco- en loopbaancoaches
✔️ een flexibel sociaal vangnet dat werkhervatting ondersteunt
✔️ betere informatie voor patiënten én werkgevers
✔️ betrokkenheid van patiënten en mantelzorgers bij beleid

❗Het is tijd voor een toekomstbestendige aanpak die participatie mogelijk maakt in plaats van afremt.

“Three years ago, at age 50, my world suddenly stood still and reorganized my priorities…
Being HPV positive since already quite some years, I was closely monitored by my gynaecologist and never missed my annual checkup. The last year though, I felt something was not quite right, with some irregular light bleedings. I mentioned it to my gynaecologist, but she was not immediately alarmed by the symptoms, seen my age and possible link with menopause.

At my next appointment though (I still had those strange bleedings), she did notice some white spots on the cervix. To be on the safe side, she immediately did a biopsy and send it over to the lab.

I will never forget that day she personally called me during a virtual team meeting with the results : a CIN2 lesion, which appeared to be a CIN3 after surgery. The journey was not without complications, with two additional hospitalisations due to heavy bleedings, but the lesion had been successfully removed and no additional treatments were needed. I was extremely lucky it was detected just in time !”

“After a challenging fertility journey, I have two embryos transferred. That same week, a dear friend has her last embryo transferred. Together, we count down the days to our test results, cautiously dreaming about what the future might hold.
Fast forward a few weeks. I receive incredible news—I’m pregnant, expecting twins. At the same time, my friend is told she has HPV-related cervical cancer and will never be able to have children.
No woman should ever have to experience this. I hope that through my work, no one will have to face the pain of involuntary childlessness caused by a preventable infection.”

"Since I never had the chance to be informed or vaccinated at school or by my general practitioner when I was younger, I was surprised to learn about the serious consequences these infections can cause, such as ge***al infections and even cancers. What’s most alarming is that we can help prevent this with a simple injection in the arm!

Initially, I thought HPV vaccination only concerned girls—but that’s far from true. It affects everyone: boys, girls, men, and women. So, I didn’t hesitate for a second to ensure my sons were better protected—and to get vaccinated myself!”

We recently turned up the heat for an incredible cause during VRT's ! 🔥

Our team proudly joined the movement, raising funds and awareness for people living with invisible diseases that deeply impact daily life but aren't always visible. Our 'Little Flame Kitchen' served delicious homemade treats, creating moments of connection and generosity.

A huge thank you to everyone who baked, donated, and supported this initiative! Together, we raised an impressive €1,076 for various organizations supporting invisible diseases, proving that a little flame can spark a lot of warmth. ❤️

Special thanks to our dedicated organizers: Valerie, Sabrina, Amélie, Svetlana and Yasemin ✨
