Welcome to our new OECI Auditors! 👏

On 28 October 2025, we were delighted to welcome 18 new OECI auditors! With this addition, our network has grown from 123 to 141 trained auditors, all committed to advancing the quality of cancer care and research across our members seeking OECI accreditation.

Over two intensive and interactive days, participants explored key aspects of the OECI Accreditation and Designation Programme, including:
✅ OECI Standards – Understanding the framework that defines excellence in oncology
✅ Peer Review Process – Preparing for effective, value-based evaluations
✅ Reporting Techniques – Using digital tools to produce clear, evidence-based reports
✅ Interview Methods – Strengthening communication and insight during on-site visits

Congratulations to all trainees for successfully completing this important milestone in their journey as future OECI auditors!

🏆 Celebrating Excellence in Cancer Research

On 27 October, Dr. Giovanni Apolone, Scientific Director of the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan and President of the OECI Organisation of European Cancer Institutes, received the prestigious “Believing in Research” award from the President of the Italian Republic, Sergio Mattarella. The award was established by the Fondazione AIRC per la Ricerca sul Cancro (Italian Association for Cancer Research).

This recognition, bestowed upon the Institute under his leadership, acknowledges the pivotal role he has played over the years in advancing cancer research and promoting scientific excellence. Under his direction, the Institute has become Italy’s leading centre in terms of research projects and scientific publications, and one of the foremost in Europe.

The award ceremony was also attended by the Minister of Universities and Research (Ministero dell'Università e della Ricerca), Anna Maria Bernini; the Minister of Health (Ministero della Salute), Orazio Schillaci; the AIRC President, Andrea Sironi; and the AIRC Scientific Director, Anna Mondino.

OECI extends its warmest congratulations to President Apolone on this distinguished honour, which attests to his unwavering commitment to fostering research and innovation as essential drivers of excellence in cancer care.
