“But there’s nothing to do there… you don’t have bars and clubs nearby…” — it’s the kind of comment I receive when I say where I live. And they’re right, there are no clubs nearby to go partying.
The thing is, I’ve always been the kind of girl who prefers to stay home watching a movie rather than going dancing at a club. I really enjoy dancing, going to parties and festivals, but it takes me a lot to recover from the energy I put into it… it’s kind of weird because I’m still young and, as a Latina, I’m supposed to love partying and dancing, etc.
Even if I know that it’s okay to prefer chill plans on a Friday night, a part of me feels like I’m missing out on things, because I could be in bigger groups, meeting new people, etc. At the same time, I know that it’s more exhausting for me to do that than to surround myself with people who enjoy the same things I do.
Thankfully, I’ve met wonderful people who are like me—people I can cook with, go coffee hunting with, read with… while also having my girls to go to Latino festivals with from time to time.
As a professional and as a human, I’ve learned that it’s really about finding the right people and enjoying activities together. Because trying to fit into a place that isn’t yours is not worth your energy.
Sometimes there’s nothing wrong with you—it’s the environment that doesn’t match your energy❤️❤️
