Daniel had the privilege of travelling to Belgium to run a two-day train-the-trainer LifeMatters programme at the Hôpital des Enfants - Kinderziekenhuis (Queen Fabiola Children's University Hospital) in Brussels.
Over one full weekend, a multidisciplinary group of paediatricians, psychologists, dietitians, physiotherapists, endocrinologists and other professionals came together to dive into LifeMatters, the psychological skills intervention that was the focus of my PhD at The University of Queensland.
LifeMatters brings together CBT, sport psychology and positive psychology to teach practical psychological skills that can be used across disciplines and modalities. The feedback was incredibly encouraging, and many shared that they will start integrating LifeMatters principles and activities into their services with children, adolescents and families.
The passion in the room was unforgettable. Choosing to spend a whole weekend learning how to better support young people says a lot about this team.
A huge thank you to Kawthar, whose vision and organisation made the training possible, and who first found my work through a LifeMatters presentation, reached out on LinkedIn, and even read my full PhD. I am also deeply grateful to Cécile and her family for welcoming Kelsey and me into their home and making Brussels feel like home.
Belgium is a wonderfully diverse country with fantastic people, culture, architecture, history and food. I left feeling hopeful about the impact this team will have as they bring evidence based psychological skills into their daily practice.
At Psyche Innovations, we focus on making psychological skills accessible for individuals and organisations. If your hospital or organisation is interested in multidisciplinary training in LifeMatters or psychological skills more broadly, we would be very happy to connect.
