Most sexually active adults will be infected with the human papillomavirus (HPV) at some point in their lives, but the vast majority of those infections don’t have any lingering effects.

Some infections, however, can lead to different types of cancer: cervical, a**l, pe**le, vaginal, vulvar, and head and neck cancers. 👈

Vaccination can prevent all HPV-related cancers, while HPV testing detects early changes long before a cancer ever develops. 💉

Together, these tools can help Europe move closer to eliminating cervical cancer. 🌟

Cancer doesn’t wait. Neither can Europe. 🚨

Every year in the EU:
➡️ 2.7 million people are diagnosed with cancer,
➡️1.28 million die from it, and
➡️€49 billion in productivity is lost to it.

With negotiations for the EU’s upcoming long-term budget now getting underway, this is the time to ensure cancer care and cancer control remain a European priority. 📉

On the eve of World Cancer Day, European decision-makers are coming together to send a clear message: the EU must continue to reach higher in the fight against cancer, childhood cancer and rare diseases.

The European Parliament Intergroup will present a joint declaration calling for sustained ambition and funding in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (2028-2034).

As Ireland looks ahead to its upcoming EU Presidency, ECO is setting resolutions 🇮🇪

Cancer remains an immense challenge in Ireland ➡️44,000 people diagnosed with cancer every year

European cooperation has helped turn ambition into action, making Ireland a champion of cancer prevention, treatment and quality-of-life policies.

In July, Ireland will get the unique chance to reaffirm its leading role on cancer policy and secure sustained political and financial support for cancer in the next EU long-term budget.

Thousands of women in Europe die from cervical cancer each year, even though there’s a widely available vaccine to prevent the disease: the human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccine. 🌍

Even more frustrating, less than 10% of women in some countries are screened for the virus – leaving far too many women without access to life-saving prevention. 🔍

This January, Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, we’re highlighting the facts, the inequalities, and the solutions that can help Europe rid this disease once and for all. ✍️

Our latest report shows how countries can strengthen HPV testing so that every woman can be protected. 📘

As we bring an extraordinary 2025 to a close, we reflect on a year that has tested, strengthened, and inspired the entire European . 🌍✨

More than ever, our unity, resolve, and shared purpose are driving the progress that patients and families depend on. In the words of outgoing ECO President Csaba Dégi 🗣️

‘Time and again, I have witnessed your strength, your collaboration, your willingness to challenge each other and to share. But perhaps your most impressive quality is your resilience. We cannot give up, not until every person affected by cancer receives the support, care, dignity, and hope they deserve.’

With warm wishes for a safe and prosperous New Year. 🍾
