🇪🇺 €2 million to strengthen cross-border cooperation between Moldova and Ukraine

The European Commission has launched the first-ever initiative on the Moldova–Ukraine border.

This pioneering project strengthens regional resilience, helps both countries align with EU standards, and supports local communities in developing joint actions that bring them closer to the EU.

Covering all of Moldova and the Ukrainian regions of Odesa, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytsky and Vinnytsia, this new initiative represents an important step in supporting both countries on their European path and in building long-term, sustainable regional cooperation.

Cohesion Policy funds discussed at the European Committee of the Regions Working Group on Moldova. 🇲🇩 🇪🇺

Moldova participates already now —on an equal footing with EU Member States—in several EU Cohesion Policy cooperation programmes:
✔️ Interreg Romania–Moldova
✔️ Interreg Black Sea Basin
✔️ Interreg Danube
✔️ Interreg Europe
✔️ URBACT

and is active member of the Danube Region Strategy

✨ A new milestone: In November 2025, the European Commission launched EuroBRIDGE_UA_MD — a EUR 2 million initiative supporting small-scale, people-focused projects in cross-border regions of Moldova and Ukraine. The new mechanism will help local and regional actors build capacity and become more familiar with EU Cohesion Policy principles, notably the partnership principle.

🇪🇺 These instruments form a solid foundation for Moldova’s alignment in the area of Regional Policy and coordination of structural instruments and future EU membership.

🚀 Cross-Border Ambassador Gábor Mitták is making a difference in the Štúrovo–Esztergom region!

In just a few weeks, Gábor has delivered interactive workshops to over 100 young people in Slovak schools, helping them reflect on life across borders and the opportunities of cross-border cooperation in .

Gábor’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. A recent Hungarian article highlighted his work connecting communities, meeting with mayors, and promoting civic engagement on both sides of the Danube.

🌿 From vision to action in the Zeeuws–Wase Bossen region

The Resilient Borders pilot between Belgium and the Netherlands has concluded with a shared roadmap for cross-border development focusing on water management, biodiversity, drought, and recreation.

The result? A structured path toward a joint territorial vision by 2026, led by the EGTC Linieland van Waas en Hulst and supported by Association of European Border Regions - AEBR / AGEG / ARFE , Mission Opérationnelle Transfrontalière , and the European Commission.
