The 27th Beyond Borders: Breakfast Debate will present ACROSS – new interactive features of the EU Data Hub for Border Regions, including a live demonstration of a new web-based mapping application developed to visualise qualitative cross-border data.

The session will explore how improved data tools can support policy design, territorial analysis and cross-border cooperation across EU border regions.

The European Commission’s DG EMPL is consulting workers, employers, and authorities operating in cross-border contexts to better understand the challenges linked to recognising skills and qualifications across borders.

What is the Skills Portability Initiative (SPI)?
Part of the Union of Skills and the EU Fair Labour Mobility Package (2026), the SPI aims to:
- remove barriers to free movement of workers
- increase transparency of skills & qualifications
- modernise and simplify recognition procedures, including for third-country nationals

The consultation will gather feedback on:
- transparency and digitalisation of skills
- recognition of regulated professions
- common rules for recognising skills of third-country nationals

Today, on International Mountain Day, we are pleased to share that the Commission Communication on the revised Action Plan of the EU Macro-Regional Strategy for the Alpine Region (EUSALP) has been officially adopted:

The Alpine Region is one of Europe’s most dynamic and innovative areas, yet it faces shared challenges such as climate vulnerability, biodiversity loss, seasonality in tourism and demographic change. Thanks to the joint commitment of all EUSALP members, territorial cooperation continues to make a real difference — from climate adaptation and energy efficiency to circular economy, water management and developing skills for the future.

The European Union Strategy for the Alpine Region is a macro-regional framework designed to enhance cooperation across seven countries - five EU member states (🇦🇹, 🇫🇷, 🇩🇪, 🇮🇹, 🇸🇮) and two non-EU states (🇨🇭 and 🇱🇮).

Thanks to EU support under the Caribbean programme, we just opened a brand-new humanitarian warehouse in — a major step forward for disaster preparedness and solidarity across the region. 

This facility can store up to 4,000 household kits, includes a crisis-coordination centre and training spaces, and is built to withstand hurricanes and earthquakes. 

What’s more: it’s built with sustainability in mind — using solar energy, rainwater harvesting and bioclimatic design — contributing to a greener, more climate-resilient

By turning Guadeloupe into a logistic hub for the wider Caribbean, this warehouse will help deliver humanitarian aid faster and more efficiently — standing with communities when they need it most. 🇪🇺
