Marius (1994, Saint-Martin-d’Hères) is a Brussels based multidisciplinary artist. He gets his hands dirty working with a broad range of different materials and topics - all left with an unmistakable mark of his style, bringing their meaning to a new light. As he says himself, he likes “to give value to what does not seem to have any and to make the useless indispensable.” Definitely leaving our heads full with second thoughts.
It took a few visits to Bidules for him to find the right pair of glasses. At first, he picked “too many different things” and couldn’t decide, but when he came back a few days later the choice was obvious: a Francoflex by Selecta from the 1970s, sturdy and reliable, the perfect companion in the workshop.
The work he is currently the most proud of is a sculpture created with , built from branches from a fallen oak tree and wool felt dyed with the tree’s bark. Blending with its natural setting, the piece reflects a deep care for materials and colour. You’d look twice, maybe three times, if you stumbled across it in the Marcaulieu forest in France.
It comes as no surprise that he’s always collected sticks, stones and sand from everywhere. More recently, wood and wool have joined the list alongside all the other carefully selected materials.
On his days off, he prefers not to plan, letting moments and places reveal themselves. Many of his favorite spots, he says, are simply the ones that found him at the right time. Needless to say, an inspiring approach to many things in life.
