Just in ‼️ the European Commission DG SANTE just published a social media toolkit for healthcare professionals to address the various false information regarding vaccination.
In the past decade, vaccine refusals have indeed contributed to declining immunisation rates in several EU countries, which resulted, for instance, in the highest measles outbreaks in years. In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) even listed vaccine hesitancy among the top ten threats to global health.
UEMS is proud to be a part of the Coalition for Vaccination to tackle this serious issue 🧑‍⚕️

Amnesty International just released a report regarding the experiences of during the pandemic. It was already known that shortages of personal protective equipment (PPE) endangered them, and it is now estimated that at least 3000 health professionals worldwide died after contracting the virus. This report also shows that some governments tried to silence the ones who tried to alert them on the outbreak of the disease.
The pandemic unfortunately revealed that not only were many countries not prepared to face such health emergency, but also that governments did not listen to health workers warning them not only against the risks of a pandemic, but also of their lack of preparedness and equipment.
Hopefully this will be a lesson for the future to improve the dialogue between health workers and policymakers.

The European Union of Medical supports the World Health Organization (WHO). The achievements of the organization are countless, and it is most unfortunate and harmful to question the work of WHO now, while we are facing a global pandemic. There will be a time for analyzing the international preparedness and response to the crisis, learning and implementing lessons, but we believe that right
now, unity, worldwide collaboration and universal approach for which the WHO has been created and is prepared for, are clearly needed to defeat the pandemic.

Healthcare workers are currently working very hard during this outbreak. Not only medical specialists, but also GPs, nurses and many other healthcare professionals. This is a very difficult situation for them, as the number of cases increases by the day in the context of a lack of protective equipment in health facilities, shortages of staff and work overload.

In this context, UEMS published three documents:
▶️ Information on the current CoVid-19 situation;
▶️ A summary of the current knowledge and available resources prepared by the Section of Infectious Diseases;
▶️ Information regarding the organization and accreditation of events.
