Fighting FEAR

Fighting FEAR A community for Q***r people by Q***r people Anxiety is an automatic response to a perceived threat. If left untreated anxiety can often lead to depression.

It can consists of the fight (where you tackle the threat head on), flight (where you distance yourself from the threat) and the freeze (where you do nothing) responses. These responses trigger the release of hormones into your body which cause your body to change in order to manage the threat you are faced with. Common symptoms of anxiety include: increased heart rate, heavy breathing,

sweating, shaking, dizziness, needing to go to the toilet, derealisation and many more. Anxiety is normal, however it can become out of control where you start experiencing anxiety in situations which would normally not cause one to feel anxious. This can lead to people avoiding many things, people or situations in their life due to the distress they experience causing them to live a life in fear. What do we offer?

Aging is something we all experience, and it’s time we reshape how we see it in our community. Our culture can sometimes feel unkind to those growing older, but the truth is, age is natural, inevitable, and deserving of respect. Let’s embrace a healthier, kinder mindset towards aging and support our q***r elders—they’ve paved the way for us and deserve community and care. And remember, one day, we’ll be in their shoes, hoping for the same understanding and support. 🌈💜

is community for Q***r people by Q***r people.

🌟 Turning back the clock to the 1980s, we celebrate the pioneering fatwas from both Sunni and Shia scholars in Islam, advocating for gender-affirmative care to bolster mental health and reduce suffering. Despite these enlightened rulings, widespread cultural discrimination against trans individuals persists across the Islamic world. This phenomenon can be viewed through the lens of colonial history. To truly empower and support the most marginalised, it is paramount that formerly colonised nations revisit their pre-colonial religious interpretations and histories. Embracing decolonisation is essential for progress. 🌱✨

Misgendering can have profound effects on the mental health and well-being of trans and non-binary individuals. It can invalidate their identities, leading to feelings of dysphoria, depression, and anxiety. Additionally, it reinforces societal norms and prejudices, making it harder for these individuals to feel accepted and valued in their communities. Misgendering can also contribute to a lack of safety, as it may out someone as transgender or non-binary without their consent, putting them at risk of discrimination, harassment, or violence. Overall, it’s essential to recognize the impact of misgendering and strive to create environments of respect and affirmation for all gender identities

Going for a healthcare appointment like to the doctors, sexual health clinic, psychotherapy etc can be daunting when you’re part of the LGBTQ+ community. Navigating healthcare can be tricky when your name, pronouns, gender expression and gender identity vary from what the doctor has written on the paper. Also you may have had bad experiences in the past.

It is not always easy for a Q***r person to feel comfortable in healthcare environments. Finding a practitioner who understands and respects your identity makes all the difference.

Research has shown that LGBTQI+ people can often be discriminated against within healthcare.

At Fighting Fear, we can help you find the ally healthcare provider and prepare information and answers to give to your GP to make your doctor’s appointments as easy as possible.

Don’t let your anxiety postpone your medical appointments. Your health matters, and you deserve to be treated with respect.
