Getting into some more knitting lately.

I will be making more socks soon but for the moment I'm knitting a black sweater (from a free beginner friendly pattern I found online) and an infinity scarf (green and grey/black stripes).

Since I knit that pair of socks I taught myself to knit the continental way and that has really helped with less pain and cramping in my hands πŸ™‚ I do think that pain and cramping come from the carpal tunnel I have in my left (mostly, rightside is also affected but less so) arm/wrist so I am going to get that checked out soon, hopefully I can avoid having to have that operated on πŸ€žπŸ€πŸ€ž

I hope everybody has a great day :-)

The pattern maker course I'm following is taking up a lot of my time and and energy.

I knew it was going to be a tough one because of all the mathyness of it πŸ˜† and I wasn't wrong.

Next exam (trouser patterning) is on the 22nd of February, so wish me luck, please! :-)

I did finally make that regency men's shirt for myself in black linen. There were a few days that I just needed to make something historical, without having to pattern out anything. So I took my black linen, didn't even look at any measurements (I took the measurements from 1 book I have and just added a couple inches to be on the sure side, lol) and just got to making that shirt. Made it pretty long so it looks like a tunic/dress.
And wadda ya know... it turned out great, bit big, but sooooo dang pretty :-)
I just put a big belt on and it looks just like I wanted it to look.
Pics aren't great but I'll add them anyway :-D

Hopefully I'll be making some other stuff than just practicing patterns for classes again soon... (probably not till end of the schoolyear, late June) because I have an outift in mind that I really wanna get to making.

No spoilers (yet) tho... but I can say it will involve velvet 😁
Have a great Thursday, y'all!

Update:
1st pair of socks I knitted myself, done! :-D

Ohmy πŸ˜„
This is actually starting to look like an actual sock πŸ˜‚
I am amazed, lol 🀣
.. also had to learn to pick up dropped stitches cuz well... things happened and after having to pull this all out for too many times because I dropped stitches and for the life of me I couldn't pick them up again, no matter how I tried.
I just needed to learn how to do that before starting up again. So thanks to yt vids on picking up stitches I finally got the hang of it πŸ˜†
Have a nice Monday evening, everyone

It has been a loooooong time since I've posted anything.

Some healthissues and the energyloss because of that and the fact that I've started an evening course (pattern making) that is pretty challenging (thanks brainfog πŸ˜† ) have made me not post on this page for some long ass time now.
Cuz I'm tired AF most of the time :-/

But here's just a little update on what I'm working on right now.
Nothing big, nothing special but it keeps me happy and chill and learning something new yet fairly easy is way fun :-)

I'm working on my first pair of (kneehigh) socks ever! πŸ˜†

First time working with dpn and actually following instructions on knitting something 🀣🀣🀣

The yarn I'm using is comparable to an 8ply
It's called "alpaca upcycled blend"
Working with 4mm needles. And the socks will be spiral-no-heel-socks with a star toe toesection. Knitted toe up :-)
I love this yarn and the colour is just so pretty (colour is "lichen") 🀩 I'm in love with it!

Hopefully my next post won't take as long to arrive here as this one did πŸ€πŸ€πŸ€
Love y'all :-)

Hyeeee, everybody! :-)

Update on the stays:
They're finished!! :-D But I've apparently lost some weight in the time that I took my measurements to make them and now so they're a bit too big... lol πŸ˜†
I do kinda like that they are a bit loose but I hope to lose a bit more weight so I'll be remaking them in a while probably.
If I do remake them, I'm going to drop the tabs or make sure the boning extends into the tabs. Because right now they tend to curl outwards and up which I am really not a fan of πŸ˜†

And I started working on a new (early) regency dress from a pattern by Black snail ( #0219) and it's coming along nicely so pics will be here soon, hopefully, of that too :-)
I'll post pics when I can.

The ongoing hott as hell/humid and therefore sticky AF weather has my pain issues playing up soo.. you guessed it. Haven't been doing a lot of sewing etc...

It also didn't help that the mock ups I made for the 18th century shirt got me a bit frustrated. I was following the directions from books and a few yt vids.
But every time I had a feeling that I was a bit off with the measurements etc I really should've been following that gut feeling apparently. cuz my sizing was too small for my first mock up, than too large for the mock up shirt I made for my sweetumz, and so on...

So I've hit the pause button on that project for now.

I really took a break from all sewingstuff and made some soaps to get into a more fun headspace again.

Then about a week ago, I was feeling the "happy sewingvibes" again and decided to go back to sewing something from the (very early) regency period.

When I started with historical sewing I started with a (selfdrafted) pattern of a morning dress with a bibfront.
I got the idea from the Janet Arnold, patterns of fashion books (I think #1) and took my measurements, drafted the pattern my self, etc...

I had no experience with historical sewing, having only made some costumes for (medieval fantasy) LARP and some historicall inspired outfits that I always used premade patterns for.

I also made the short stays and all the underthings for that first historical outfit of mine :-)
It actually turned out a lot better than I expected. Even considering the "mistakes" I made.

It's been about 4 or 5 years since I made that outfit and I always intended to revisit it when I got more practice, experience and knowledge of handsewing, pattern adjustment/drafting, ... everything related to historical sewing.

Over those 4/5 years I found out about those indie pattern brands that make beautifull patterns that come very close to being HA, like Black Snail, Scroop, Laughing Moon Mercantile, Truly Victorian, etc...
And I have used some patterns from these brands and grown to love them.

I now got the pattern for a bib-front regency dress so I can have an easier time when I decide to get into that period of time again.

But first I'll have to make some new stays for that outfit, because my sizes have changed and I also want to make the transitional stays in stead of the short stays.
I found a pattern from Corsets by Caroline on etsy that I will be using.

I am changing some things on the pattern to have it closing in the front because I want to be able to get in and out of it without needing assistance.

I'll post some pics of the work in progress when I've saved them to my PC.

I will also be making some more "historybounding" stuff in the regency style (and possibly some Victorian, 1920's, etc...) so I can also wear my self made clothes on a more day to day basis.

That's why I started to get into making my own stuff in the first place more than 20 years ago now. Then I discovered larping and all my clothes making time went into making fantasy/cosplay outfits (and a tiny amount of cosplaying was involved too :-) )

Oh, and don't worry about the mock ups for the 18th century shirt, they're being used as night shirts 😁

And I will be making that 18th century "men's" shirt soon enough, I just have to get into that happy-fun sewing zone again first :-) which I think this regency project and making the historybounding pieces will definitely do for me :-D

Love y'all, have a great rest of the weekend!

Tillie Anderson Shoberg wears a costume worn by women cyclists in the early 1890s. Shoberg was known as "Tillie the Terrible Swede." An immigrant from Sweden, Shoberg was known as the best female bicyclist in the late 1800s. She competed until 1902 when the League of American Wheelmen banned women from racing.
