Hyeeee, everybody! :-)
Update on the stays:
They're finished!! :-D But I've apparently lost some weight in the time that I took my measurements to make them and now so they're a bit too big... lol π
I do kinda like that they are a bit loose but I hope to lose a bit more weight so I'll be remaking them in a while probably.
If I do remake them, I'm going to drop the tabs or make sure the boning extends into the tabs. Because right now they tend to curl outwards and up which I am really not a fan of π
And I started working on a new (early) regency dress from a pattern by Black snail ( #0219) and it's coming along nicely so pics will be here soon, hopefully, of that too :-)
I'll post pics when I can.
The ongoing hott as hell/humid and therefore sticky AF weather has my pain issues playing up soo.. you guessed it. Haven't been doing a lot of sewing etc...
It also didn't help that the mock ups I made for the 18th century shirt got me a bit frustrated. I was following the directions from books and a few yt vids.
But every time I had a feeling that I was a bit off with the measurements etc I really should've been following that gut feeling apparently. cuz my sizing was too small for my first mock up, than too large for the mock up shirt I made for my sweetumz, and so on...
So I've hit the pause button on that project for now.
I really took a break from all sewingstuff and made some soaps to get into a more fun headspace again.
Then about a week ago, I was feeling the "happy sewingvibes" again and decided to go back to sewing something from the (very early) regency period.
When I started with historical sewing I started with a (selfdrafted) pattern of a morning dress with a bibfront.
I got the idea from the Janet Arnold, patterns of fashion books (I think #1) and took my measurements, drafted the pattern my self, etc...
I had no experience with historical sewing, having only made some costumes for (medieval fantasy) LARP and some historicall inspired outfits that I always used premade patterns for.
I also made the short stays and all the underthings for that first historical outfit of mine :-)
It actually turned out a lot better than I expected. Even considering the "mistakes" I made.
It's been about 4 or 5 years since I made that outfit and I always intended to revisit it when I got more practice, experience and knowledge of handsewing, pattern adjustment/drafting, ... everything related to historical sewing.
Over those 4/5 years I found out about those indie pattern brands that make beautifull patterns that come very close to being HA, like Black Snail, Scroop, Laughing Moon Mercantile, Truly Victorian, etc...
And I have used some patterns from these brands and grown to love them.
I now got the pattern for a bib-front regency dress so I can have an easier time when I decide to get into that period of time again.
But first I'll have to make some new stays for that outfit, because my sizes have changed and I also want to make the transitional stays in stead of the short stays.
I found a pattern from Corsets by Caroline on etsy that I will be using.
I am changing some things on the pattern to have it closing in the front because I want to be able to get in and out of it without needing assistance.
I'll post some pics of the work in progress when I've saved them to my PC.
I will also be making some more "historybounding" stuff in the regency style (and possibly some Victorian, 1920's, etc...) so I can also wear my self made clothes on a more day to day basis.
That's why I started to get into making my own stuff in the first place more than 20 years ago now. Then I discovered larping and all my clothes making time went into making fantasy/cosplay outfits (and a tiny amount of cosplaying was involved too :-) )
Oh, and don't worry about the mock ups for the 18th century shirt, they're being used as night shirts π
And I will be making that 18th century "men's" shirt soon enough, I just have to get into that happy-fun sewing zone again first :-) which I think this regency project and making the historybounding pieces will definitely do for me :-D
Love y'all, have a great rest of the weekend!
