Dhamma Pajjota

Dhamma Pajjota Dhamma Pajjota (Light -or Torch- of Dhamma). Offering courses in Vipassana meditation as taught by S.N. Goenka in the tradition of Sayagi U Ba Khin.

What is Vipassana Meditation? Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India's most ancient techniques of meditation. It was taught in India more than 2500 years ago as a universal remedy for universal ills, i.e., an Art of Living. For those who are not familiar with Vipassana Meditation, an Introduction to Vipassana by Mr. Goenka is available (http://www.dhamma.org/en/vipassana.shtml).

Invitation to the Service Period April/May

Dear all,
Spring has begun, and at Dhamma Pajjota nature is coming back to life. Everything is blooming and fragrant, and our garden is teeming with birds and insects.
It is the perfect time for a thorough spring cleaning, which will take place during the upcoming service period from
20 April to 05 May 2026
During this time, we look forward to welcoming many old students who come together to carry out the necessary maintenance work in the various areas of the centre and to meditate together several times a day.

You are warmly invited to join us.

If you enjoy working outdoors, our Garden Team is the perfect place for you. As always, there will be plenty to do in the outdoor areas, and you will be able to spend a lot of time in the fresh air.

If you prefer working indoors, the Housekeeping Team will be happy to get your help with the necessary cleaning tasks or small maintenance jobs in the accommodation buildings.

If cooking or baking is your thing, you are warmly welcome in the Kitchen, where you can help prepare meals for all helpers on site.

Join us for as long as you have time — one, two, three or more days, or even just a few hours.

In addition to your work, you will take part in the regular group sittings, and in the evenings there will be the opportunity to watch videos about Vipassana and Dhamma. The service periods are a wonderful opportunity to grow in Dhamma while actively contributing to the centre.
During the service period, a three‑day children’s course for girls aged 8 to 18 will take place from April 24 to 26. Our children’s course team is very happy about any help with the preparation and implementation of the course. Further information will be sent to you in a separate announcement.

Interested?

Please apply via the course schedule using the Dhamma Service application form — click here.

Sit and Serve Periods 2026

Dear all,

In many discourses, Goenkaji has shared his views on the benefits of giving Dhamma Service. It strengthens your meditation practice, trains you to apply Dhamma in your everyday life, supports you in developing your Pāramīs and helps you grow in humility and selflessness. Goenkaji always highlighted that being active in Dhamma Service is the highest dāna since donating your time, effort, and intention to help others come out of suffering is far more valuable than the nonetheless wholesome act of donating money.

Countless old students worldwide have benefited from serving 10-day and other courses which could not take place without the invaluable support of so many.

There may still be times when one’s busy schedule does not allow you to give away several days of your life to serve a complete course.

In such cases, serving at Dhamma Pajjota during a Sit & Serve Period might be a good alternative since it offers a better time flexibility. During Sit & Serve period, you can help at Dhamma Pajjota e.g., for a week, a few days, over the weekend, or even one day only, just as it suits you best.

The dates for this year are as follows:

09 Mar – 12 Mar

20 Apr – 05 May

21 Jun – 30 Jun

14 Sep – 30 Sep

16 Nov – 25 Nov

The tasks that will be done are manifold: You can work in our beautiful garden, help maintain the centre’s buildings and facilities, support cleaning activities, do small repair work or support the kitchen team in catering to the other servers. Whatever you do, your service will make a great difference.

In addition to the Sit & Serve periods, there are always short working periods between courses where the centre will be prepared for the next course.

During the Sit & Serve and working periods, the servers sit three group sittings a day, you will have the opportunity in the evening to listen to selected Dhamma discourses, or you can read a book from the centre’s library.

During your stay you will have a single room, and for servers, there is a meal three times a day.

Interested in supporting Dhamma Pajjota?

Then please apply via Dhamma Pajjota’s online course schedule. If you have any questions, please contact us via email at info@pajjota.dhamma.org.

Long-term Dhamma service: A wonderful opportunity

Dear all,

Giving Dhamma service is an opportunity to strengthen and deepen your own practice while working for the benefit of others. For long-term Dhamma servers, who stay and work at the centre for longer periods of time, these benefits are multiplied many times over.

Your long-term service might be for a few months, for a year or even more. Part-time long-term service is also an option, allowing you to spend some days at the centre and others at home.

A few long-term servers have recently left, luckily a few others came in. The new long-term servers look forward to sharing the workload with others, and also to sharing their skills and knowledge. When this happens, we can ensure the smooth running of courses and the maintenance of our buildings and the garden.

Therefore Dhamma Pajjota is looking for long-term servers with practical skills in kitchen work, gardening, and household tasks. Servers willing to take on a coordinating role in these areas with the support of respective committees are very welcome. At the moment, there is a server to coordinate maintenance, but meditators to help with maintenance are also very welcome.

You can get a taste of the responsibilities involved by coming to serve in between courses or by joining one of the trust meetings and meeting with experienced servers. Please contact info@pajjota.dhamma.org and specify your area of interest, if you have any.

Long-term service in a nutshell

As a long-term server you will collaborate with the centre-management team, with teachers, trustees, and members of the various committees. You will attend three group meditations each day and you are expected to regularly sit a course during your service, and to join a course as a server when the need arises.

You are encouraged to take regular time off to rest and maintain contact with family and friends.

Six studios are available across the road at Driepaal 8 for dedicated servers staying for longer periods. Each studio has its own bathroom and kitchenette. For new female long-term servers there are also single rooms on the 2nd floor of the office building, which has a kitchenette.

Language should be no barrier. While English is the primary language at the centre, Dutch, German and French are spoken but not required. Before applying for long-term service, you need to have served at least one 10-day course. Also you should not have practiced any other meditation techniques since your last course.

“During my long term service, servers have been incredibly inspiring for me.
Servers have taught me the Dhamma by their qualities; quality of honesty, simplicity, kindness, calm, attention, clairvoyance, goodwill, tolerance, patience, effort, balance, and qualities for the art of living.
May we all keep on growing in Dhamma.”

Invitation to the Service Periods:
December 2025 & January 2026

Dear all,
As 2025 slowly comes to a close, we look equanimously at the cycle of ending and beginning, and look forward to the birth of a new year.

This time of transition is a wonderful opportunity to prepare our centre for 2026 together, and we would be very happy if many old students joined us to help.

The upcoming service periods will take place:

21-26 December 2025 & 7-13 January 2026

During these days, we will come together to work at the centre, meditate, and connect with each other and we’d be delighted to have you with us.

In Pajjota’s garden, the following tasks are planned:

Replanting bushes.
Pruning tree branches that lean outside the property (chainsaw skills welcome).
Reusing the trimmed branches to reinforce and strengthen the fences.
If you have experience with chainsaws or simply enjoy gardening, our garden team would be grateful for any support.

If you’d prefer to stay warm indoors during the winter months, our housekeeping team would be happy to have your help with various cleaning or small maintenance tasks in the buildings. For the upcoming serving periods, they are looking for someone who can help to

Clean and paint some used shelves.
Assemble some new plain shelves for the female accommodation.
Mount a coatrack in the female manager’s room.
Or you might enjoy supporting our kitchen team and helping prepare meals for the other servers.

Whatever you enjoy doing, you are warmly invited to join for as long as you can: one, two, three or more days, or even just a few hours.

Alongside the work, you’ll join the regular group sittings, and in the evenings there’s the opportunity to watch videos on Vipassana and Dhamma.

The service periods are a great chance to grow in Dhamma while actively supporting the centre.
