Long-term Dhamma service: A wonderful opportunity
Dear all,
Giving Dhamma service is an opportunity to strengthen and deepen your own practice while working for the benefit of others. For long-term Dhamma servers, who stay and work at the centre for longer periods of time, these benefits are multiplied many times over.
Your long-term service might be for a few months, for a year or even more. Part-time long-term service is also an option, allowing you to spend some days at the centre and others at home.
A few long-term servers have recently left, luckily a few others came in. The new long-term servers look forward to sharing the workload with others, and also to sharing their skills and knowledge. When this happens, we can ensure the smooth running of courses and the maintenance of our buildings and the garden.
Therefore Dhamma Pajjota is looking for long-term servers with practical skills in kitchen work, gardening, and household tasks. Servers willing to take on a coordinating role in these areas with the support of respective committees are very welcome. At the moment, there is a server to coordinate maintenance, but meditators to help with maintenance are also very welcome.
You can get a taste of the responsibilities involved by coming to serve in between courses or by joining one of the trust meetings and meeting with experienced servers. Please contact info@pajjota.dhamma.org and specify your area of interest, if you have any.
Long-term service in a nutshell
As a long-term server you will collaborate with the centre-management team, with teachers, trustees, and members of the various committees. You will attend three group meditations each day and you are expected to regularly sit a course during your service, and to join a course as a server when the need arises.
You are encouraged to take regular time off to rest and maintain contact with family and friends.
Six studios are available across the road at Driepaal 8 for dedicated servers staying for longer periods. Each studio has its own bathroom and kitchenette. For new female long-term servers there are also single rooms on the 2nd floor of the office building, which has a kitchenette.
Language should be no barrier. While English is the primary language at the centre, Dutch, German and French are spoken but not required. Before applying for long-term service, you need to have served at least one 10-day course. Also you should not have practiced any other meditation techniques since your last course.

“During my long term service, servers have been incredibly inspiring for me.
Servers have taught me the Dhamma by their qualities; quality of honesty, simplicity, kindness, calm, attention, clairvoyance, goodwill, tolerance, patience, effort, balance, and qualities for the art of living.
May we all keep on growing in Dhamma.”
