The UN celebration of the International Day of Happiness, 20th March, is a reminder of the importance of well-being and happiness.

Refractory has a dramatic impact on the quality of life of patients. Patients suffering from ascites are immobile and very restricted in their daily activity, and often report feelings of isolation and depression. Patients that had the implanted experienced a substantial improvement in quality of life as demonstrated in the various clinical studies.

Patients testified about their improved activity and mobility, and generally felt much better than before their implantation with the alfapump. These patients also experienced improvements in their eating, breathing and sleeping and were able to perform everyday tasks like cooking for their family and going on vacation without worrying about getting back in time for paracentesis; feeling strong enough to do anything they wanted to do.

These all contribute to greater patient well-being and happiness and are part of what makes our work so rewarding.

It is vital to look after your . Heart failure is the leading cause of US hospitalizations in patients over 65 years old and 90% of these admissions are due to fluid overload (AKA congestion). Approximately 200,000 US heart failure patients have drug-resistant congestion requiring repeated hospitalization and the cost of heart failure-related hospitalizations in the U.S. is estimated at $14.5 billion a year.

Sequana Medical is developing DSR® (Direct Sodium Removal), a disease-modifying heart failure therapy, which demonstrated substantial long-lasting clinical benefits in two clinical studies with congested heart failure patients.
