The Belgian Medical Students’ Association (BeMSA) is a Belgian student-run organisation. As of the 2018-2019 academic year, it represents medical students from 9 of the faculties across the country, while also establishing international connections through the existing network of 137 national member organisations of the International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations (IFMSA). The Intern
ational Federation of Medical Students Associations (IFMSA), founded in 1951, is one of the world’s oldest and largest student-run organizations. It represents, connects, and engages every day with an inspiring and engaging network of 1.3 million medical students from 137 national members organizations in 127 countries around the globe. Each year we organise a series of events on a local, national and international level, including 100 clinical and research exchanges for our students to explore innovations in medicine, healthcare systems, and healthcare delivery in other settings. BeMSA brings people together to exchange, discuss, and initiate projects in order to create a healthier world. It trains its members to give them the skills and resources needed to be health leaders. It advocates for the pressing issues that matter to us to shape the world we want. And it does deliver: our projects, our campaigns, and our activities positively impact the physicians-to be as well as the communities they serve. Our work is divided in the following global areas:
- Public health (SCOPH – Standing Committee on Public Health)
- Sexual and reproductive health (SCORA – Standing Committee on Reproductive health and AIDS)
- Medical education (SCOME – Standing Committee on Medical Education)
- Human rights and peace (SCORP – Standing Committee on Human Rights and Peace)
- Student internships abroad (SCOPE – Standing Committee on Professional Exchange; SCORE – Standing Committee on Research Exchange)

De Belgian Medical Students’ Association (BeMSA) is een koepelorganisatie voor Belgische geneeskundestudenten. Elke Belgische medische faculteit (en zijn studentenvereniging) kan toetreden tot BeMSA. De 2 belangrijkste doelen van BeMSA zijn (1) informatie en educatie bieden op sociaal, academisch, cultureel en ethisch gebied en (2) een actief lid zijn van het reeds bestaande internationale IFMSA-netwerk. We werken nauw samen met studentenverenigingen aan de medische faculteiten in heel België. We ondersteunen de lokale projecten en organiseren daarnaast jaarlijks een Music for Life project, een Healthy Planet project, een orgaandonatie-project en een Global Health Short Course. IFMSA is een onafhankelijke, niet-gouvermentele en niet-politieke federatie van medische studentenverenigingen uit heel de wereld. IFMSA werd opgericht in 1961 en vertegenwoordigt 1,2 miljoen geneeskundestudenten uit bijna 100 National Member Organizations. IFMSA is officieel erkend door de Verenigde Naties (VN) en de World Health Organization (WHO) als het internationaal forum voor geneeskundestudenten. BeMSA was aanwezig op de European Regional Meeting van IFMSA (EuRegMe) in Catalonië (april 2011) en op de General Assembly van IFMSA in Kopenhagen, Denemarken (augustus 2011). Op deze August Meeting 2011 werd BeMSA (en dus België) officieel een Candidate Member van IFMSA.

La Belgian Medical Students’ Association (BeMSA) est une organisation parapluie qui regroupe les étudiants en médecine belges. Chaque faculté de médecine belge (et sa société d’étudiants) peut rejoindre les rangs de BeMSA. Les deux objectifs principaux de BeMSA sont (1) proposer des informations et de l’éducation dans le domaine social, académique, culturel et éthique et (2) être un membre actif de l’IMFSA, le réseau international déjà existant. Nous collaborons avec les sociétés d’étudiants des facultés de médecine partout en Belgique. Nous soutenons des projets locaux et organisons aussi annuellement un projet pour Music for Life, un projet pour Healthy Planet, un projet pour le don d’organes et un Global Health Short Course. L’IFMSA est une fédération indépendante, non-gouvernementale et non-politique regroupant les sociétés d’étudiants en médecine à travers le monde. L’IFMSA a été fondée en 1961 et représente 1,2 millions d’étudiants en médecine issus de presque cent National Member Organisations. L’IFMSA est officiellement reconnue par les Nations Unies et la World Health Organisation comme le forum international pour les étudiants en médecine. BeMSA était présent au European Regional Meeting de l’IFMSA (EuRegMe) en Catalogne (avril 2011) et à l’Assemblée Générale de l’IFMSA à Copenhague au Danemark (août 2011). C’est à l’occasion de cette assemblée que la BeMSA (et donc la Belgique) est devenue officiellement un Candidate Member de l’IFMSA.
