PathoSense presents a new product: PathoSense Select!

Start guessing. Stop diagnosing!

We listened to your feedback. You told us that you missed the thrill of picking the right pathogen on the first try.

So today, we're proud to launch PathoSense Select™ - our new targeted PCR service.

How it works:
Guess which pathogen is causing the problem
Order that specific test
Wait for results
Get a negative result
Guess again
Repeat from step 1

Sampling kit includes: 847 individual pathogens to select (please label clearly what you select), a coin for flipping, and a Magic 8-Ball for second opinions.
Turnaround time: depends on how lucky you feel.
..
Or just send us one swab. We'll find everything. No prior selection required.
Happy April 1st. We're sticking with metagenomics. 🧬

🐍🐢🦎🐒 PathoSense Diagnostics: EXOTICS
📅 26 March · 7PM CET

Exotic species present some of the hardest diagnostic puzzles in veterinary practice — limited reference ranges, atypical presentations, and pathogens that conventional testing often misses.

We'll also walk through the exotic cases we've analysed to date: what we're detecting, which pathogens keep appearing, and what the data tells us about trends in the field.
This webinar, we're honored to be joined by Dr. Tom Hellebuyck to explore respiratory infections in snakes and tortoises — linking clinical pathology directly to sequencing results.

No prior pathogen selection. Every virus and bacteria in a single sample. The complete diagnostic picture.

Stop guessing when PCR comes back negative.

In exotic and zoo medicine, standard PCR primers often fail because they aren’t optimized for rare species or divergent strains. The result? A sick patient, a frustrated vet, and a "clueless" false negative.

Join our upcoming webinar to see how metagenomic sequencing identifies novel pathogens that traditional tests miss. We’ll dive into:

✔️2026 Case Studies: Real-world examples from zoo and exotic practices.

✔️Beyond Primers: How to detect pathogens without needing to know exactly what you're looking for.

✔️Better Insights: Moving from "inconclusive" to "actionable."

👂🎙️ NEW PODCAST EPISODE 'Pathogens in the Spotlight' with guest Marc Schyns
Is a "healthy" pig actually virus-free? Or are we just scratching the surface of what a normal microbiome looks like? 🐖✨

In this episode of Pathogens in the Spotlight, host Sebastiaan sits down with Marc Schyns, a newly appointed European Veterinary Specialist in Porcine Health Management.

🔍 Inside the Research:
Marc discusses his latest publication on the enteric virome of clinically healthy Dutch piglets. Using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), his study revealed a surprising truth: healthy piglets aren't "clean"—they carry a consistent, complex pattern of viruses like Rotaviruses, Astroviruses, and Sapoviruses that may actually help train their immune systems.

Traditional diagnostics often require you to be a detective before you even run the test—you have to guess what you’re looking for just to order the right PCR.

Dr. Jade Bokma highlights why this "targeted" approach is changing. By moving toward PathoSense sequencing, we stop looking through a keyhole and finally open the door to the full microbial landscape.

"The advantage of PathoSense is that you have a broad view. You're not just looking for one thing; you're looking for everything that's there." — Dr. Jade Bokma

When you have a "broad view," you aren't just identifying the usual suspects; you’re uncovering the hidden co-infections and strains that traditional tests simply weren't designed to find.

As a clinician, how often do you suspect a "secondary" pathogen is the real culprit when a standard test doesn't explain the full clinical picture? 🐄👇

Unlocking the Secrets of Bovine Respiratory Disease with dr. Jade Bokma! 🐄🩺

Ever wondered how we can get ahead of complex infections in cattle? In this latest episode of PITS (Pathogens In The Spotlight), Sebastiaan Theuns sits down with veterinarian and researcher Jade Bokma to dive deep into the world of bovine health and precision diagnostics.

Jade shares her expert perspective on:

👯 The "Synergy" of Disease: Why Bovine Respiratory Disease (BRD) is rarely a solo act and how viruses and bacteria work together to challenge animal health.

🧪 Deep Dive Sampling: The pros and cons of using Bronchoalveolar Lavage (BAL) versus nasopharyngeal swabs to get the most accurate diagnostic picture.

🎯 The Sequencing Revolution: How moving from traditional cultures to Nanopore sequencing is changing the game for rapid, targeted treatment.

🔬 From Lab to Farm: Practical advice on bridging the gap between high-level research and everyday veterinary practice to improve antimicrobial stewardship.

Whether you are a vet in the field, a researcher in the lab, or a producer looking for better health outcomes, this episode is packed with actionable insights.
