Joyeux 125e anniversaire à Hawayo Takata ! 🎂
Cette photo a été prise au Trinity Metaphysical Center, à Redwood City, en Californie, en décembre 1979, pour célébrer le 79e anniversaire de Takata. Environ deux semaines plus tôt, elle avait enregistré une série de cassettes destinées à servir de base à son autobiographie. Elles commencent ainsi :
« Eh bien, je suis née à Hanamaulu, à Hawaï, le 24 décembre 1900. Et quand je suis née, il n'y avait pas de médecins, donc tous ces immigrants venus du Japon dans les années 1800 avaient recours à des sages-femmes. [...] [Ma mère] a demandé à la sage-femme : « Quelle heure est-il ? » et la sage-femme a répondu : « Le soleil vient de se lever au-dessus des collines. » Et ma mère a demandé à la sage-femme : « Est-ce un garçon ou une fille ? » et la sage-femme a répondu : « C'est une petite fille, aux cheveux noirs, et c'est une enfant très, très forte. »
Ma mère a alors dit : « Veuillez lui donner un bain, l'envelopper dans une couverture neuve et la tourner vers le soleil. Je veux que vous l'initiiez en posant votre main sur sa tête et en disant : « Je te nomme Hawayo. » Et dites-le trois fois. » Après cela, elle a dit : « Succès, succès et succès. » La sage-femme a donc fait exactement ce qu'on lui avait demandé. »

This photo was taken at the Trinity Metaphysical Center, Redwood City, California, in December 1979 to celebrate Takata's 79th birthday. About two weeks earlier, she had recorded a series of tapes meant to be the basis of her autobiography. They begin:
"Well, I was born in Hanamaulu, Hawaii, on December 24, 1900. And when I was born, there were no doctors, so all these immigrants who came from Japan in the [1800s] had midwives. [...] [My mother] asked the midwife, 'What time is it?' and the midwife said, 'The sun is just coming out over the hills.' And my mother asked the midwife, 'Is it a boy or a girl?' and the midwife said, 'It is a little baby girl, black hair, and very, very strong child.'
So my mother said, 'Please give her a bath, wrap her in a new blanket, and face her [towards] the sun. And I want you to initiate her by putting your hand on top of her head and say, 'I name you Hawayo.' And say it three times.' And after that she said, 'Success, success, and success.' So the midwife did exactly as she was told."
