BEVAS. Belgian Veterinary Acupuncture Society

BEVAS. Belgian Veterinary Acupuncture Society We are the first and oldest in Europe teaching Veterinary Acupuncture Drs Luc Janssens and Emiel van Den Bosch studied acupuncture in humans at the BVGA.

1976: drs Luc Janssens and Jan Still made the first complete acupuncture maps for dogs, still a reference today: “Acupuncture points and meridians in the dog”

Late 1990’s: drs Emiel van Den Bosch and Jean-Yves Guray made the first complete acupuncture maps for horses: “Acupuncture points and meridians in the Horse”. They would be accompanied by other pioneers, dr Andre Demontoy, George de Bilderl

ing, dr Westermayer and dr Kotbauer, to actively promote Veterinary Acupuncture in Europe, all in their own particular way. Until dr Marvin Cain (USA) introduced them to IVAS, which was about to start the first structured veterinary acupuncture course in the Western world in the late 1970’s.

1984: First IVAS certified Veterinary Acupuncture course in Belgium, and Europe, organized by BEVAS. In the same year, the first ever, international veterinary acupuncture congress was organised at the RUCA in Antwerp, Belgium with speakers from Europe, the United States of America, Africa, Asia and Australia. In the late 1980’s a small group of veterinarians set up the legal structure of non-profit organisation for BEVAS as an official affiliate of IVAS. From the continuing educational efforts and classes in Belgium, various other European societies would emerge. Founded in term by colleagues, who studied veterinary acupuncture with us in Belgium. Since 2013, Continuing education has become obligatory for veterinarians in Belgium. We are proud to communicate that the thorough structure of our courses allowed the Flemish Veterinary Board (N.G.R.O.D.) to accredit us official Continuing Educational credits, which are valid worldwide.

Traditional Chinese Medicine in Veterinary Care isn’t just an add-on —
it’s a different way of seeing, listening, and healing. 🐾🌿

Where some see symptoms, the integrative vet sees imbalances.
Where others try to suppress, we choose to understand.
That’s where TCM becomes a true ally: in the needle that restores flow, in the herb that balances, in the tongue that reveals what the body hasn’t yet said out loud. 🌱👅✨

Clinical practice transforms when you train in Integrative Veterinary Medicine.
You change what you see.
You change what you do.
You change how you heal. 💛

🩺 Do you have “not really sick” patients who just don’t seem to get better?
Animals that come to your clinic with:
💨 Weak breathing
😮‍💨 Dry cough with no apparent cause
🐾 Dry skin
⚡ Persistent fatigue

Does it sound familiar? 👀
The answer might lie in Lung Qi deficiency.

And to tonify it, the secret is in:
💉 Acupuncture
🌿 Herbal medicine

By combining both, we strengthen the immune system and balance the Lung–Large Intestine axis 🫁🧠

🔍 Have you noticed your patients seem more restless, sensitive, or show subtle signs that don’t quite fit any diagnosis during summer?

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, summer corresponds to the Fire Element 🔥
And its effects go far beyond just external heat — it influences the Heart, the Shen (mind/spirit), and emotional balance.

When Yang energy is at its peak, you might see:
🐶 Anxiety
💧 Excessive thirst
👅 Red, dry tongue
🌀 Trouble relaxing
💥 Mood swings

At the clinic, we can support these imbalances through:
💉 Acupuncture
🌿 Herbal medicine
🥗 Nutritional therapy
🧘 Gentle routines and a calm environment

🧩 Skin issues after stress?
🐾 Muscle tension + cough?
🌬️ Recurring allergies with no clear cause?

In TCM, this may signal a Liver–Lung imbalance: when expansion (Wood) overwhelms protection (Metal).

✨ In clinic, we can:
✔️ Tonify the Lung
✔️ Balance the diet
✔️ Use acupuncture to restore flow

☀️ As the season shifts toward summer, so does the internal balance of our patients.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, this is not just a climate change — it’s an energetic transition.
The Heart becomes the central organ, and the Yang energy rises.

✨ What can we do before symptoms appear?

✅ Tonify the Spleen to support Qi and Blood
✅ Prevent internal heat by nourishing Yin
✅ Balance the Shen to avoid anxiety and overstimulation

This is not just about reacting — it’s about preparing the body to adapt naturally 🌿
