BEVAS. Belgian Veterinary Acupuncture Society

BEVAS. Belgian Veterinary Acupuncture Society We are the first and oldest in Europe teaching Veterinary Acupuncture Drs Luc Janssens and Emiel van Den Bosch studied acupuncture in humans at the BVGA.

1976: drs Luc Janssens and Jan Still made the first complete acupuncture maps for dogs, still a reference today: “Acupuncture points and meridians in the dog”

Late 1990’s: drs Emiel van Den Bosch and Jean-Yves Guray made the first complete acupuncture maps for horses: “Acupuncture points and meridians in the Horse”. They would be accompanied by other pioneers, dr Andre Demontoy, George de Bilderl

ing, dr Westermayer and dr Kotbauer, to actively promote Veterinary Acupuncture in Europe, all in their own particular way. Until dr Marvin Cain (USA) introduced them to IVAS, which was about to start the first structured veterinary acupuncture course in the Western world in the late 1970’s.

1984: First IVAS certified Veterinary Acupuncture course in Belgium, and Europe, organized by BEVAS. In the same year, the first ever, international veterinary acupuncture congress was organised at the RUCA in Antwerp, Belgium with speakers from Europe, the United States of America, Africa, Asia and Australia. In the late 1980’s a small group of veterinarians set up the legal structure of non-profit organisation for BEVAS as an official affiliate of IVAS. From the continuing educational efforts and classes in Belgium, various other European societies would emerge. Founded in term by colleagues, who studied veterinary acupuncture with us in Belgium. Since 2013, Continuing education has become obligatory for veterinarians in Belgium. We are proud to communicate that the thorough structure of our courses allowed the Flemish Veterinary Board (N.G.R.O.D.) to accredit us official Continuing Educational credits, which are valid worldwide.

There are cases that seem to be “going well”… but you know they’re not quite right.
Because improvement doesn’t always mean healing ❤️‍🩹

And that’s where many veterinarians get stuck—applying treatments that work… but never truly reaching the root of the problem.

🔗 The difference isn’t about doing more. It’s about seeing differently.
Understanding that behind every symptom, there’s an imbalance that needs to be interpreted—not just treated.

That’s where real veterinary medicine begins.

👉 Share in the comments if you’ve ever felt—or still feel—this way.

This is what learning looks like at BEVAS 👀

Is veterinary acupuncture a trend or a clinical evolution?

⭐ Veterinary acupuncture is part of Integrative Veterinary Medicine and is used as a complementary tool in the management of pain, neurological conditions, and musculoskeletal disorders.
It does not replace treatments. It complements them.

The evolution of veterinary medicine lies in integrating tools with clinical judgment and specialized training.

Do you already use it in your practice?

Most people associate liver support in spring with “detox”
But in integrative veterinary medicine, it goes much deeper than that.

Spring isn’t just a seasonal change 👉 it’s a physiological shift.

💫 The body moves from a phase of conservation to one of activation.
And if that transition isn’t well managed, imbalance shows up.

That’s why supporting the liver at this time of year isn’t about following a trend.
It’s about understanding timing, function, and adaptation.

Because sometimes, what makes the difference in consultation isn’t what you treat…
👉 it’s when and why you decide to support it.

Do you adjust your treatments according to the season?
Let’s open the conversation 👇

Some cases stay with you.

Moments in consultation that make you pause… rethink what you know, and open the door to a different way of understanding medicine.

That’s what many of our students share: they don’t just learn new tools — they transform the way they observe, think, and support their patients.

Because when you start to understand beyond the symptom, everything takes on a new meaning.

At BEVAS, we don’t just train veterinarians.
We support processes of professional and personal transformation.

💬 If you feel there’s another way to practice veterinary medicine, this might be your path.

In clinical practice, the difference isn’t always in the diagnosis 👉 It’s in the question you ask yourself before treating.
When you change the question, you change the approach. And when the approach changes, the outcome changes.

⭐ What question guides your treatments?
We’re reading you in the comments!
