Abstract

This workshop explores Unseen Attachment Trauma (UAT), a subtle yet deeply impactful form of trauma rooted in caregiver unavailability. Based on D'Hooghe's (2018) framework, UAT disrupts attachment and can lead to dissociative, insecure styles such as anxious, avoidant, or disorganized. Central to the discussion is the Thanatos attachment style, which emerges when a child internalizes destructive maternal dynamics linked to the Death Mother archetype. This style is characterized by themes of self-sabotage, lifelessness, and a drive toward annihilation. The workshop will examine the personal and relational consequences of this attachment style and its broader implications for violence and conflict.
