On 20 May 2026, the ECHO - European Confederation of Care Home Organisations - held its General Assembly in Madrid, bringing together leading representatives from across the sector to discuss the future challenges of elderly care: sustainability, innovation, workforce shortages, and quality of care.
Our members highlighted the strategic importance of European cooperation in building more resilient, inclusive, and person-centred care systems. International collaboration, the sharing of best practices, and dialogue with European institutions will be increasingly essential to ensure sustainable, high-quality care models for the future.
In a rapidly ageing Europe, long-term care is no longer only a social issue, it is a key economic and healthcare priority for the continent.
