discovered a stunning belitsa garden recently transformed into the beautiful Ivan & Petar restaurant today. the crispy chicken wrap was packed with fresh tomato and cucumber and presented beautifully for a sunny july lunch outdoors.

did you know that turkey has a wine route? i only learned yesterday of the trakya bag rotasi. somewhere between edirne and istanbul, conditions are perfect for wine and kambucha cultivation and fermentation and where there's good wine, there's always great food. this is a roast beef salad that was perfect in every way.

saturday's soups are sorta spectacular. we love'm!

the shkembe was a rich creamy delight that eases you in to the authentic taste of bulgaria. there's no tripe. so even the squeamish foodie gets to sample one of the most beautiful flavours of the balkans without a full initiation.

the fish soup tasted just like it's supposed to with just the right texture in the carrots and spuds. it warms you up perfectly on an otherwise wet, slushy day.

both soups were on today's *soup of the day* menu and are exceptional value for lunch with the accompanying fresh baguette.

We'd walked past RB Kitchen on the river in Blagoevgrad before opening day and already had high expectations. The ambience is pretty much exactly what you want from a foodie focused establishment with lots of fresh ingredients on display. The menù del giorno didn't disappoint. My shepherds pie was made by someone who loved all the ingredients individually. Delicate meat, creamy mash and a perfect cheese glaze. Something nonna would approve of. Soup of the day was wholesome and invigorating on a blustery January day. Our antipasto of sun dried tomatos, and pate hit all the right notes.

an absolute gem of a restaurant hidden in the faralya hills. daily specials and a menu that doesn't look anything like the tourist fast-food of many establishments in the area. beautiful views over the bay and back at the cliffs draped in dreamy villas. we were treated like old friends and rewarded with beautiful home cooking flavours.

when i moved to bansko in 2017, there was nowhere to buy fresh fish that wasn't trout. i'm really grateful to dimina fishmongers on the glazne river for fixing this. i don't know how they do it this far from the mediterranean, but yes, this is yellow-fin tuna steak on a warm pillow of black tomato and fresh basil. it was as luxurious and decadent as it looks. if you haven't been in there yet, pay them a visit. they also stock fish sauce and caviar spreads that will make you forget you're in a little ski town in the balkans.

aioli, bacon, poached egg and avocado sandwich that tasted every bit as good as it looked, before i demolished it. cob salad in the background is also perfect refreshment in today's heat.

beef ribs and contra fillet in ognyanovo today. 15 lev each on the obedno menu. there was so much love and flavour in the steak and baked potatoes that i can't do it justice here. just go and get some.
