The Eternity

This form was drawn to feel like an inward passage of light—a place where a quiet flame can keep watch. Along its curve, hand-inked dandelion clocks loosen into flight; the seeds rise and, in the next breath, become birds. It’s a simple image of release: what we love is not lost, only carried onward.

In many childhoods, dandelions are how wishes learn to travel. A puffball becomes a “dandelion clock”—you blow, count the breaths, and let a hope go with them, a small ritual that turns time into tenderness.

Nature writes its own meaning, too. One flower head scatters hundreds of parachutes, seeking new ground; and because dandelions bloom early and long, they feed the lean weeks of spring—an unassuming lifeline for bees and other pollinators. Their resilience reads as quiet courage.

Across old healing traditions, dandelion is remembered as food and medicine—edible leaves and roots, and in Chinese practice (púgōngyīng 蒲公英) a classic herb used to “clear heat.” In that sense, the motif holds healing and remembrance in the same breath.

Stories carry the seeds further.
From Korea, a folktale tells of a prince fated to spend his one wish on the stars; when starlight fell to earth it became dandelions, a way of saying that light can be brought close and made gentle. Another telling says that when the great flood rose, the flowers prayed and were given wings; their white seeds rode the wind to sunlit hills—gratitude in bloom each spring.

From China, modern folk-style tales linger on love and return: dandelions grow where faithful hearts once waited, their seeds carrying messages on the wind; and each first bloom is greeted as a messenger of spring, one of the earliest bright voices after winter—humble, resilient, alive.

In our story, the hand-drawn seeds lift into birds—breath into flight, presence into passage. When the candle is lit, the inner curve gathers the glow, turning the piece into a small sanctuary of light: a place where a name can rest, and love can keep traveling.

Guardians at the Gate — Komainu and the A-Un Breath
⛩️⛩️Across Japanese Shinto shrines, pairs of stone “lion-dogs” stand watch: sometimes called komainu (often rendered as “lion-dogs” or “Korean dogs”) and shishi (“lions”). One opens its mouth (a-gyō), the other closes it (un-gyō). Together they form a-un—the first and last sounds—symbolizing the beginning and the end, and warding away misfortune. This gatekeeping imagery traveled along the Silk Road: the lion as an apotropaic symbol took shape in China during the Tang dynasty, then reached Korea and Japan. By the Heian period, the pair could appear as a lion and a dog-like guardian (sometimes horned); later they became nearly identical, differing mainly by the mouth. From the 14th century onward they were carved in stone and moved outdoors; in the Edo period they lined the sandō, the approach to the shrine. Across all variations, their message endures: loyal presence guarding the threshold between everyday life and the sacred.

It began as a pencil study of movement: an oval drawn into itself, like a tide turning home. A small flame rests in the heart of the piece; its light glides along the curves, amplifying the calm the sculpture radiates.

The surface can be finished in craquelure—a fine, intentional network of lines that reads like a life map: connected moments, love held together through change. It’s chosen not for age, but for meaning—the beauty of imperfection and the passage of time inscribed on the glaze.

"I was shopping for an urn for my kitty Moka. She was known for her beautiful blue eyes, so when I saw this baby blue urn I just gasped in amazement. I knew it was the one. I can’t believe how quickly this arrived from Bulgaria. The actual urn is perhaps a bit lighter in color than some of the photos show. I would have preferred a somewhat darker blue, but this is fine. I don’t like to glue my urns shut, so I’ll be looking for some kind of plastic stopper for the bottom, as is more common in the US. The urn is quite large for pet ashes, so measure carefully if you want something petite. My pictures don’t show the color accurately, because I was photographing in dim light. I have a blue crystal heart charm hanging around the neck of the urn, but I’m also waiting for an engraved name tag that has Moka’s name and dates. "
