Meditation is a practice that teaches us to observe without judgment, to let go of the noise that often fills our minds, and to find solace in the simplicity of being present. In a world that constantly demands our attention, meditation is a sanctuary where we can recenter ourselves, find clarity, and nurture our well-being.
I’ve been told many times by people that they can’t meditate because they can’t stop thinking but the goal of meditation isn’t that. The goal is to be aware of your thoughts and how you react to them. Take a deep breath, close your eyes and find stillness. Observe the breath, focus on each inhale and exhale. It may be weird for you to make something so mundane as breathing, important for a moment. Leave all expectations what it should be and see what happens. There are many guided meditations out there you can try with - YouTube, meditation apps like and more. I’m actually trying a few now and will give my feedback very soon.
Just like every practice consistency is important and the often you meditate the more comfortable you’ll get with yourself. To me practicing yoga and meditation is like a little date I have with myself so I try to focus my whole attention on the present moment. If your mind goes away don’t judge yourself but gently return your focus on the breath.
Scientifically, meditation has been shown to reduce stress by decreasing the production of stress hormones like cortisol. It can also improve focus and attention by enhancing the brain’s ability to regulate and control thoughts. Additionally, regular meditation has been associated with changes in brain structure and function, particularly in regions related to self-awareness and emotional regulation, leading to better overall mental health.
