Pulmonary Function Tests including Spirometry, Reversibility, gas transfer/Diffusion, Lung Volumes, Maximum Voluntary Ventilation, MIPs, MEPs, 6 minute walk tests, Exercise Challenge Tests and FeNO (Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide) tests. These are vital diagnostic tools in conjunction with Bronchoscopy, CT Thorax scans, Bloo

You may need a PFT if you are short of breath, coughing, had Covid 19 or Pneumonia recently, a current smoker, ex smoker, or someone who was exposed to passive smoke or other damaging chemicals such as asbestos, fiberglass, silicon, coal dust, specific chemicals in an occupational setting. 😮The MANOSPHERE sells masculinity as suppression😮...no vulnerability, no emotional processing. But what you bottle up doesn’t disappear. It converts. Chronic stress raises CORTISOL, and when it stays high, it drives INFLAMMATION-including in your lungs. At the same time, constant fight-or-flight can trigger BRONCHOCONSTRICTION, tightening your airways and making breathing shallow and restricted. So while the message is “tough it out,” the body is doing the opposite-constricting, inflaming, struggling to breathe under UNPROCESSED STRESS.
Real strength isn’t repression. It’s regulation.Breathe better. Live better.

🌿🌊At The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda, we believe protecting health also means protecting our environment. 🌿🌊

We’re proud to support Keep Bermuda Beautiful (KBB) and the Beyond Plastic Bermuda campaign as part of the BEST (Bermuda Environmental Sustainability Taskforce) KBB Champions of Change initiative.
Here are 2️⃣ ways we’re doing our part:
♻️ Recycling the Right Way – We follow Bermuda’s recycling guidelines by separating T.A.G. recyclables — Tin, Aluminium, and Glass to help reduce waste and support proper recycling across Bermuda.
💧 Reducing Single-Use Plastics – Instead of plastic water cups, we provide paper disposable cups and filtered drinking water using a ZeroWater filter, delivering 0 ppm clean water for patients who may be coughing or thirsty during a PFT (Pulmonary Function Test).
Small changes can make a big difference for our island and our ocean. 💚

💨🏭Dearest Gentle Reader,
The ballrooms of the Regency era dazzled with candlelight, sweeping gowns, and orchestras playing the latest fashionable airs. Yet beyond the glitter of the ton, life in those days carried challenges we rarely imagine today.💨🏭
The streets of London were often heavy with coal smoke from fireplaces and industry, leaving the air thick and difficult to breathe. Many suffered from persistent coughs, breathlessness, and lung illnesses that physicians of the time could scarcely treat.
This was an age before modern vaccines, before antibiotics, and long before inhalers existed to ease breathing. Illnesses such as “consumption” (what we now know as tuberculosis) and other respiratory diseases were frighteningly common, affecting people from crowded city workers to members of high society alike.

The passing of actor Eric Dane, age 53, most famous for starring in Grey’s Anatomy and Euphoria, has brought renewed attention to the devastating progression of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

While ALS is often recognized for causing limb weakness, one of its most serious and life-threatening complications is respiratory failure. As the disease advances, it weakens the diaphragm and other muscles required for breathing. Over time, patients may experience…
-shortness of breath
-difficulty clearing secretions
-fatigue
-disrupted sleep and
-eventually an inability to breathe independently.

Here at The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda, we closely monitor respiratory muscle function using specialized tests such as Maximal Inspiratory Pressures (MIPs) and Maximal Expiratory Pressures (MEPs).

These measurements allow us to assess respiratory muscle strength, detect early decline, and guide timely interventions such as noninvasive ventilation and airway clearance support leading to improved quality of life.

🔥In the Year of the Fire Horse, we celebrate energy and resilience…But inflammation in the lungs is a different kind of fire. It is one that narrows airways and limits airflow. When inflammation burns inside the airways, breathing becomes restricted.🔥
If you feel…
*tightness
*shortness of breath
*persistent cough
*wheeze
your lungs may be signaling inflammation. These could be signs of Asthma or COPD. You may even require treatment such as a corticosteroid inhaler.

Let’s extinguish the harmful fire and protect the power within your breath. This year, don’t let airway inflammation steal your fire. Let’s cool the flames and restore your breathing strength.

👩‍⚕️Currently, in Bermuda, HIP and FutureCare cover Spirometry only but not Full Pulmonary Function tests at
The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda. This is problematic in the following ways.👩‍⚕️

😢Only spirometry leads to diagnostic gaps. We offer full PFTs which include Lung Volumes, DLCO, MVV and MIP MEPs.
😢Without these, there could be missed or delayed diagnoses (could miss Interstitial Lung Disease, Pulmonary Hypertension, Neuromuscular disorders)
😢Incomplete assessment of lung function could lead to misclassifying disease between obstructive and restrictive disease. Telling the difference between asthma and emphysema would be impossible without DLCO for example.
😢Patients may not attend for ongoing monitoring due to lack of coverage.
😢Poor health outcomes leading to bad symptom management, hospitalizations and complications.

• Esophageal dysfunction – digestive challenges
• Sclerodactyly – thickening/tightening of the skin
• Telangiectasia – widened blood vessels on the skin

Why pulmonary care matters:

Pulmonary hypertension
Interstitial lung disease
Breathing difficulties and reduced lung function.

At TPS, we’re committed to supporting early detection, advanced pulmonary diagnostics, and compassionate respiratory care.

💙 If you or a loved one is managing CREST Syndrome, regular pulmonary screening can make all the difference.
