Improved ERV =Easier Breathing

📉 From 265 lbs → 236 lbs💊 With the help of Mounjaro®.

Case Study here at The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda

79-year-old white male patient experienced not just a 10.94% weight loss —but better lung function. His Expiratory Reserve Volume (ERV) — the “extra breath out” after a normal exhale — increased from 0.13 L (15% of predicted) to 0.80 L (98% of predicted)!!! This means: Less restriction on breathing. Improved exercise tolerance. More “breathing room” for daily activities. Weight loss doesn’t just change the scale — it can literally help you breathe easier and reduce the mechanical burden of obesity. Still lots more weight to lose but this was such an encouraging start for him!

🦠 What is Aspergillus fumigatus?
Aspergillus fumigatus is a common mold found in the environment — in soil, decaying leaves, compost, and even indoor dust.

👉 For most healthy people, it doesn’t cause any problems.
But for those with weakened immune systems, lung disease, or asthma, it can lead to serious infections like:
🔹 Aspergillosis
🔹 Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA)
🔹 Invasive pulmonary aspergillosis

🚨 Symptoms to watch for:
Persistent cough
Wheezing
Shortness of breath
Fever (in invasive cases)
Coughing up blood (in severe cases)

💡 If you or a loved one has a chronic lung condition and develops these symptoms, don’t ignore them — early diagnosis and treatment are critical.
Protect your lungs. Breathe easy. Stay informed.

💊👩‍⚕️How the new 2025 Bermuda Budget affects the healthcare of our patients at The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda 💊👩‍⚕️
• expansion of prescription drug coverage for HIP and FutureCare policyholders. This additional funding will increase the coverage limit for HIP from $1000 a year to $3000 and increase the FutureCare limit from $3000 to $5000 a year.

• Expand coverage for annual health exams for all HIP and FutureCare clients. Regular annual checkups catch potential health issues early, before they escalate into costly medical emergencies.

• Eliminate the 12-month waiting period for new HIP & FutureCare policyholders to access the Personal Home Care Benefit.

This International Women’s Day, here at The Pulmonology Specialists Bermuda TPS, we would like to shine a light on women’s lung health. Women are disproportionately affected by respiratory diseases like asthma, COPD, and lung cancer—partly due to hormonal influences like estrogen, which can worsen lung inflammation. Yet, many women put their own health last while caring for others. It’s time to change that. Let’s advocate for more awareness, gender-specific research, and encourage women to prioritize their own well-being. Healthy women make a healthier world. International Women's Day
