With a shortage of cough and cold mixtures across North America consider turning to your garden for effective remedies. Thyme and Oregano contain thymol and carvecol which are highly effective mucolytic and antibacterial properties. I boil them in rum or vodka as both alkaloids are soluble in alcohol. I then store the alcohol and herbs in a jam jar and when ever I feel something coming on I put a tsp of the mixture in with hot lemon and honey and get to bed before anything takes hold of me.
