Dear GEHI CORE Family Members and Valued Patients,
It is with great sadness that we must inform you of a difficult decision.
As of March 1, 2025, CORE Heart Health Center will no longer be able to provide services under the former billing structure to GEHI members or fully support our pro bono clients.
Despite our repeated efforts over the past six months to work collaboratively with GEHI on a dispute, no meaningful progress has been made. Since August 2024, GEHI abruptly stopped paying for our cardiac prevention and rehabilitation program, citing a so-called "provider issue." This claim disregards the historical context of the matter.
For over a decade, the Bermuda Heart Foundation's CORE program has consistently followed GEHI’s billing guidelines, using a methodology they provided, and approved, and reimbursed without issue. To now be labeled as "noncompliant in providing information" is not only misleading and inaccurate but also appears to avoid accountability for a problem they created and for their decision to cut off patient care without warning—affecting our seniors, vulnerable persons, and those who cannot afford to pay for our services.
At CORE, our priority has always been the health and well-being of our patients. In the face of GEHI’s actions, we have continued to provide services—at our own expense—for as long as possible, ensuring that no patient was left behind. However, this has placed an unsustainable financial burden on our organization.
This decision was not made lightly, and we understand the profound impact it will have on our patients and the community we serve. We believe that GEHI’s actions have created a shortsighted system failure that puts patients at risk. Nevertheless, we remain committed to advocating for fair solutions that prioritize your health and well-being.
We encourage any patients impacted by this decision to reach out to GEHI directly. We also urge you to share your story. We are the Bermuda Heart Foundation, CORE Health Center, and Jump 2b Fit—together, we are making a difference.
