👣 Talking Toes on Tuesday – November Edition! 👣
•
Tune in to Power95 at 7:15am and Ocean89 at 7:45am as we step into Diabetes Awareness Month with this month’s episode of Talking Toes on Tuesday!
•
Did you know diabetes can affect the nerves and blood flow in your feet — often without you even realising? 🦶 Reduced sensation and circulation can lead to wounds that don’t heal properly, increasing the risk of infection and serious complications.
•
That’s where podiatrists come in! 👩⚕️ During a Diabetic Foot Exam (recommended every 6 months for anyone diabetic or pre-diabetic), we check:
🩶 Skin colour & temperature – to assess blood flow
🔍 Dermatological signs – such as wounds, infections, or poor healing
💓 Pulses & capillary refill – to monitor circulation
⚡ Neurological response – to detect any nerve damage
If you’re diabetic and have a history of wounds on your feet or lower limbs, you should be checked regularly by a podiatrist to help prevent further complications.
•
Podiatrists can also perform routine nail care to safely trim your nails — reducing the risk of cuts, infections, and other issues that could cause serious problems for those with diabetes. ✂️🦶
•
After your assessment, you’ll be classified as low, medium, or high risk, and your results will be shared with your GP — ensuring we’re all on the same foot when it comes to your care. 👟
•
Prevention is the best protection — regular checks can help you stay one step ahead of diabetes-related complications.
