What are the new advancements in medical imaging?

Medical imaging saves millions of lives each year. It helps doctors to detect and diagnose a wide range of diseases, from cancer and appendicitis to stroke and heart disease.

Wearable medical devices aren’t just monitoring heart rates and insulin levels anymore, a few notable devices show considerable promise for radiology and diagnostic imaging.

In late 2023, MIT researchers announced they had developed wearable ultrasound scanners with applications in bladder and kidney disease, breast cancer detection, and more. The flexible devices can be tuned to take images of nearly any organ, suggesting use cases in home health care, diagnostic imaging, and preventive care management.

Understanding Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy.

Rates of the disease have nearly doubled in the last decade and now affect 1 in 12 pregnancies.

In a Mirvie-sponsored Miracle of Life prospective study, there was validaty of performance of a simple blood test to predict preeclampsia early. This was at 17.5 to 22 weeks gestational age, in 91% of pregnancies in women aged 35+ without pre-existing high-risk conditions, months ahead of symptoms.

Those with a low-risk result have 99.7% probability of not developing preterm preeclampsia.

Chest Wall Masses at Breast Imaging

Findings at breast imaging are not limited to breast cancer and benign pathologic conditions. A myriad of chest wall pathologic conditions, including benign and malignant tumors of various tissue origin, can be encountered.

While the imaging findings may not clinch the diagnosis, the patient history may be suggestive, and tissue sampling will often be necessary to establish the diagnosis.
