Why I chose Ho Chi Minh for Rhinoplasty ?
A bit of backstory, I had an earlier procedure done in Jakarta, this cost me about 5000 BND. The result however, was not satisfactory… after a few months , there was no difference on my nose and the implant even shifted to the right.
My husband and I then did another research, we asked around, asked for the costs and googled the clinics providing the services around the region. Below is a summary in the POV of a Bruneian:
1 ) Jakarta
Facilities - Good , but some clinics are just beauty spas. 4/10
Cost - We were quoted 5000 BND for the Rhinoplasty, original quote was around 3000 BND in WhatsApp. While quite a normal price, the results weren’t worth it. On top of that no warranty. If something goes wrong, you need to fly to Jakarta and that’s on average 600 BND return from Brunei. 5/10
Pros: Good for sightseeing when you have the time. Cheap and good food. Easy to communicate.
Cons: Macet. No warranty. Expect to pay “foreigner tax” in **hidden charges**
2) Kuala Lumpur
Facilities - we asked about 5 clinics that provide the rhinoplasty. 3 of them were full fledged hospitals, the other 2 were just beauty establishments far away from the city in a shop house. 7/10
Cost - Quite a wide range. We were quoted from 2000 BND to 10000 BND. The less expensive quote were from beauty clinics. Flights to KL can be done from miri (about 400 BND return) 5/10
Pros - easy to communicate. Easy to move around.
Cons- Hotels can be a bit pricey.
3) Ho Chi Minh
Facilities - complete plastic surgery clinics. Do avoid beauty clinics. 8/10
Cost- we received 2 quotes, one clinic quoted 2k BND for Rhinoplasty, the other clinic that we finally chose, quoted 1.6k BND. For flights , RB flies to HCM 3 times a week for 350 BND return. 9/10
Pros: Halal food can be found a lot in HCM. The country is also cheap in general. Accommodation was actually cheap, for 100 bnd you can expect to stay for 4 nights at a decent hotel at the city centre.
Cons: communication , but then there’s google translate.
We chose Ho Chi Minh and stayed 4 nights there after considering all of the options we have. We did a expenses break down also after that, all in BND
Procedure (rhinoplasty) - 1,600
Flight (for 2) - 700
Hotel - 90
Eating out - 150
Transport - 100
Shopping - 300
Roughly 3000 BND total including the procedure. Now imagine doing the procedure somewhere else , for 3000 BND you can’t even pay for the procedure itself, that’s not even including the flight tickets, accommodation, spending money etc.
FYI, we will never have this service in Brunei 😅, we respect that, but we are only sharing our experience in doing Rhinoplasty.
