You skipped dessert. Ate dinner early. Took a walk after. Went to bed feeling good.

Then you checked your fasting glucose in the morning and it was higher than expected. Again.

If it wasn't the food, what was it?

It might have been the light.

While you were catching up on shows, scrolling Instagram, or texting in bed, your body wasn't just absorbing information. It was absorbing junk light.

Your metabolism runs on a clock. Every organ, your liver, your pancreas, your brain, follows a daily schedule governed by light exposure. Sunrise tells your body to become insulin sensitive. Darkness tells it to start repair and recovery. Blue light at night tells your brain it's still daytime.

When you flood your eyes with screens after dark, melatonin stalls. Cortisol creeps up. Your liver keeps dumping glucose. Your muscle cells stop absorbing it efficiently. Your mitochondria power down instead of doing overnight repair.

Your body is in metabolic jet lag. Even though you're lying in bed, your biology thinks it's still snack o'clock.

I had a patient named Angela whose fasting glucose hovered around 116 despite a clean diet. We didn't change her food. We changed her light. A 9pm screen-free wind-down with warm lights and a book. Two weeks later, her fasting glucose dropped 10 points.

Junk light is the new junk food. Both confuse your metabolism. Both respond to habit, not hustle.

Start with 30 screen-free minutes before bed. That's it. Let your body remember what night is.

“Why is this all you do???? Do something different”.

That was a recent comment from someone on one of my workouts...

My reply was simple: because it works. 🤷‍♀️

It’s great to try new exercises, even the “fancy” ones you see on Instagram. However...

The "boring" exercises will ALWAYS win.

Focusing on the basics (and variations) like squats, lunges, deadlifts, pushes, presses, pulls, etc. and staying consistent with those is how you get results.

See the fancy exercises as a way to add in some variety, but not as the main portion of the workout.

The reality of making real progress is not changing up your exercises every workout.

It’s about consistency and progress with the RIGHT exercises.

And 99% of the time, the right exercises are the boring ones!
