Tribute to Paulo Cesar Serafini, MD PhD
This week, the field of reproductive medicine lost a true giant: Prof. Dr. Paulo Cesar Serafini. With a brilliant career, his work transformed the lives of thousands of patients, couples, colleagues, and students who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey in reproductive medicine began as a research fellow at Tulane University, alongside Nobel laureate Prof. Andrew Schally, followed by a residency at the University of Maryland and a fellowship at USC under Drs. Richard Paulson and Roger Lobo. He went on to hold leadership and academic positions at Cedars-Sinai, Huntington Reproductive Center, Pasadena, Huntington Memorial Hospital, and Yale University, before returning to Brazil—where his contributions became inseparable from the very history of reproductive medicine in the country. In Brazil, he founded Huntington Clinic, which expanded from its first center in Vitória to become a national reference in reproductive medicine, with units in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Campinas, Brasília, and, more recently, Minas Gerais and Goiás. Along this journey, Paulo established himself as a symbol of excellence in fertility care and patient-centered practice—building one of the world’s most extensive experiences in genetic testing, surrogacy, and the treatment of endometriosis-related infertility. At the University of São Paulo, he earned his PhD, achieved senior professorship, and directed the Human Reproduction Center. Beyond his academic and clinical achievements, he will be remembered for his deeply human and personalized care—his wide smile, attentive listening, and tireless dedication that accompanied couples through every step of their journey.
As his wife, I had the enormous privilege of sharing life with a brilliant, restless, and visionary mind. The grief is immense, but his legacy will live on forever .oficial
