This one is for my athletes, students & blue-collar workers, carpenters, masons, electricians, plumbers ect. Today we’re talking about Bursitis.

Yes it too is an RSI (Repetitive Stress Injury). Just doing your daily jobs, practicing/playing the game you love, and yes even just paying attention in class.

“Bursitis (bur-SY-tis) is a painful condition that affects the small, fluid-filled sacs — called ‘bursae (bur-SEE)’ — that cushion the bones, tendons and muscles near your joints. Bursitis occurs when bursae become inflamed. The most common locations for bursitis are in the shoulder, elbow and hip.”

For students, it’s elbows on the desk, athletes it’s mostly “trauma”. Either being hit by the projectile (usually some form of ball); or landing repeatedly on elbows, knees & hips. Li

Likewise for the blue-collar workers who are usually on there hands and knees doing there jobs. It’s that repetition that irritates the bursae which then leads to bursitis.

Once not infected, it’s easily treatable with the RICE (Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation) method.

Continuing with RSIs (Repetitive Stress Injuries) let’s talk about “Shin Splints”. Runners, walkers, speed walkers, yep. I’m talking about y’all. Long story short; it’s swelling of muscles and tendons in your shin that become very painful due to excessive use.

Avoidance - STRETCH and properly warm up before engaging in activity.

Cure - R.I.C.E (rest, ice, compression, elevation). Get off your legs and relax. Resting let’s your body repair itself. Ice reduces swelling. Compression helps provide support to control swelling and for if you have to use the affected leg. Elevation works with the ice eliminate swelling and provide extra rest by taking gravity out of the situation. .

RSI’s usually all follow the same pattern. These can occur in hip joints, low back, knees, ankles, wrists, elbows, shoulder, neck and upper back. However they all start out the same.

So be mindful of how you use your body on a daily basis and try to avoid these factors that can lead to an RSI in the future. .

This one is for the office workers and
those who think that because you’re an office worker you don’t “work hard”.

RSI (Repetitive Stress Injuries) mainly affect office workers. Bodies are meant to move. So being confined to a desk and repeating the same motions daily can result in overuse of muscles, ligaments, tendons; thus causing injury over time.

Simple solutions. Every so often, get up and stretch and walk around. Ensure that your desk and chair are at the adequate height and you’re not over reaching or having to strain any part of you to see anything. Also make sure your feet are firmly planted on the floor. Connection with the ground helps to displace a lot of unnecessary movements we make unconsciously. .
