LUCAYAN MEDICAL CENTRE
HISTORY
1968 Lucayan Medical Centre was built through the efforts of Dr. Robert Forsyth. The Centre was established to deliver high quality health care to the residents of Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas.
1978 The administration of the Centre was assumed by Dr. Marcus C. The ensuing years witnessed the growth of the Centre by the upgrading of the physical premises, medical equipment, medical and support personnel.
1983 The opening of Marcus H. Bethel Medical Pavilion marked an historic phase in the development of the Lucayan Medical Centre. The capabilities of the Centre were expanded to include an ambulatory surgical suite, laboratory and X-ray facilities, and special design features increased the efficiency and comfort of the physicians, staff and patients.
1988 Lucayan Medical Centre celebrated twenty years of dedicated quality service to the northern Bahamas as a comprehensive multi-specialty ambulatory care facility and continued its quest for excellence in health care.
1994 Lucayan Medical Centre East was officially opened on 2nd July, 1994. This modern facility is designed to serve the growing needs of the Grand Bahama community in a highly professional and comfortable environment.
2005 Catastrophic fire destroyed Lucayan Medical Centre –West and the Marcus H. Bethel Medical Pavilion.
2007 The construction of a new state of the art Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Centre commenced. This facility, an extension of Lucayan Medical Centre-East, is designed to provide Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computerized Axial Tomography (CAT), Standard and Fluoroscopic X-rays, Mammography, Bone Densitometry, Ultrasonography, Electrocardiography (ECG), comprehensive Laboratory services, Pharmacy, Physiotherapy and Rehabilitative services, Audiology and Speech therapy.
2008 LMC celebrated 40 years of quality service to Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas. Lucayan Medical Diagnostic and Rehabilitation Centre’s construction was completed in April 2008 and incorporates comprehensive state of the art Diagnostic Imaging technologies, laboratory services and physiotherapy services.
2013 LMC celebrated 45yrs. of quality service to Grand Bahama and the Northern Bahamas. MRI scanner (1.5 Tesla) service introduced to Grand Bahama.
