YOU HAVE THE POWER TO RESTART A HEART, WE CAN SHOW YOU HOW. You have the potential to save thousands of lives. Immediate CPR and use of an AED can double, or even triple, survival rates. Is your workforce prepared? It is a safe and easy-to-use device that delivers a therapeutic electric shock to the heart as treatment for a victim in Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA).
An AED can be a lifesaving tool but can be useless if not maintained. An AED maintenance schedule is imperative to keeping your device functioning properly. A complete program that includes risk assessment, training, maintenance and recordkeeping must be in place.
A Sudden Cardiac Arrest occurs when an electrical malfunction in the heart causes it to beat in an irregular rhythm. Blood cannot be pumped around the body, starving the brain and other organs of oxygen. The only treatment for a Sudden Cardiac Arrest is CPR and the use of a defibrillator, which can restore the heartโs natural rhythm. If this is administered in the first 3-5 minutes after the SCA, the victim has a 74% chance of survival โ however with every minute that passes their chance of survival decreases by 10%.
In New Providence, the average ambulance response time is 15-45mins and on most of our Family Islands thereโs no ambulance available and the clinics are miles away. Therefore, it is vital for our communities, schools, homes, businesses, public and private facilities to have a defibrillator on site; and know what to do if a staff member, customer or family member suffers a SCA. Immediate treatment with CPR and a defibrillator could save a lifeโฆSeconds Count!
