Public Hospitals Authority The Public Hospitals Authority is one of the best healthcare systems in the Caribbean, managing public hospitals and supporting agencies in the Bahamas.

The Public Hospitals Authority is recognized as one of the best healthcare systems in the Caribbean, earning praise for being the provider and employer of choice for the people that live and visit The Bahamas. To improve communication with our internal and external clients, our dynamic, new organization-wide page. The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) was established in July 1999 by an Act of Parliament (1998) as a public corporation responsible for the management and development of the public hospital system in the Commonwealth of The Bahamas. By virtue of this Act, the PHA was vested with the powers, rights, privileges and ownership, of all land, buildings, movable property and undertakings of the hospitals that were previously held by the government. There are three (3) such institutions, namely:

Princess Margaret Hospital (PMH)
Sandilands Rehabilitation Centre (SRC); and
Rand Memorial Hospital (RAND)
In addition to its mandate for public hospitals, the PHA is also charged, under the delegated authority of the Minister of Health, with responsibilities for the management and development of four (4) other areas of the public sector health services system, namely:

National Emergency Medical Services (NEMS)
Bahamas National Drug Agency (BNDA)
Materials Management Directorate (MMD)
The Community Health Services in Grand Bahama, which together with the Rand Hospital encompasses the Local Health System known as the Grand Bahama Health Services (GBHS).

Power Restored at PMH

The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) confirms that power at Princess Margaret Hospital has been fully restored following today’s outage.

✅ Critical care services remained unaffected
✅ No negative patient outcomes were reported
✅ Backup systems have been reinforced with new batteries
✅ A full risk assessment is underway to further strengthen hospital resiliency

The Public Hospitals Authority (PHA) acknowledges recent public concerns regarding acetaminophen (Tylenol) and its use during pregnancy.

At present, we have received no official notifications, recalls, or directives from manufacturers or vendors. We continue to work closely with the Ministry of Health & Wellness to monitor the situation.

In the meantime, we strongly advise pregnant mothers to consult their attending physicians—including OBGYNs or family practitioners—before using any medication for pain relief.

Any new updates or guidance will be shared with the public immediately.
