Bahamas Institute of Hand and Rehabilitation is pleased to introduce the newest addition to our team, Winston Dawes, RPT.

Winston is a Jamacian native and a graduate of the University of the West Indies' School of Physical Therapy. He has nearly 10 years of experience as a licensed physiotherapist. Seven of these years have been in service to Bahamians in both hospital and clinical settings.

We are excited to welcome Winston to our BIHAR family!

Whether you are a patient recovering from surgery or someone with mobility limitations, one tool hand therapists choose to increase hand range-of-motion is putty.

Putty provides significant benefits after hand and finger surgery. Its silicone-based material can be used as part of many hand strengthening programs. In addition to post-surgery rehabilitation, putty exercises can significantly benefit patients with temporary or chronic mobility limitations in their hands such as arthritis.

Putty comes in several color-coded resistance levels ranging from softest resistance to extra heavy resistance.

3-D printed bilateral splints for a newborn with "windblown hands".

Windblown hand is a hand deformity that is present from birth. The cause of this deformity is unknown. People with windblown hand have flexion contractures of the joints at the base of each finger that prevents normal mobility of their hand and causes their fingers to bend toward their little finger (i.e., ulnar drift). In addition, windblown hand is characterized by a "thumb-in-palm deformity" or "clasped thumb" where the thumb is webbed to the palm by a soft tissue bridge.
