Rock Your Socks for World Down Syndrome Day!🧦
But why the socks?

Socks were chosen because their shape resembles chromosomes and individuals with Down syndrome have an extra copy of chromosome 21.

Today, the Department of Public Health team across The Bahamas is proudly rocking our socks to celebrate the abilities, contributions, and uniqueness of people with Down syndrome.

Join us by wearing your fun or mismatched socks and help spread awareness! 🧦💛

Isn’t it fitting that today is both World Oral Health Day and the International Day of Happiness?😃

While we’re reminded to take care of our smiles, today we’re also celebrating something just as important—happiness.

This year’s International Day of Happiness theme, “Caring and Sharing,” encourages us to look out for one another, spread kindness, and share moments that uplift the people around us.

A simple act, a kind word, or even a smile can make someone’s day brighter.

✨ Today’s reminder:
Care a little more.
Share a little kindness.
And don’t forget to smile!

Because sometimes the smallest gestures can bring the greatest happiness.

A happy mouth is a happy life!😁🦷

Today, we observe World Oral Health Day, a reminder that taking care of your mouth is an important part of taking care of your overall health.

This year’s theme, “A Happy Mouth is a Happy Life,” highlights how good oral health supports our ability to eat, speak, smile, and live confidently every day.

Simple habits for a healthy mouth:
🪥 Brush your teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste
🧵 Floss between your teeth daily
🥗 Limit sugary foods and drinks
🦷 Visit your dentist at least twice a year

Your smile is one of your greatest assets, protect it!

Today is World Kidney Day!💚

Your kidneys may be small, but they play a huge role in keeping your body healthy by filtering waste, balancing fluids, and supporting many vital functions.

Kidney disease often develops silently, with many people unaware there is a problem until it has progressed. That’s why awareness and prevention matter.

Protect your kidney health:
💧 Drink enough water
🥗 Eat balanced meals and limit excess salt
🏃🏾 Stay physically active
🩺 Manage conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes

Pay attention to possible warning signs:
• Swelling in the feet, ankles, or face
• Changes in urination
• Persistent fatigue
• Puffiness around the eyes

Today and every day, be mindful of your kidney health and encourage your family and friends to do the same. Early attention can make a big difference!

Healthy kidneys help keep your whole body strong.

On World Diabetes Day, the Department of Public Health encourages every Bahamian to take charge of their health and well-being. Diabetes doesn’t have to define your future. Early screening, active living, and informed daily choices can significantly reduce risks and improve your quality of life. Today, we continue our commitment to providing communities with the tools, education, and support they need to prevent and manage diabetes effectively. We encourage you to visit your nearest clinic for routine blood sugar screenings. Together, we can build a healthier, stronger Bahamas.
