The Bahamian Association of Nutritionists and Dietitians (BAND) was first launched in the 1980’s with the mission to achieve and provide quality nutrition service and maintain proper standards of nutrition for all people residing in The Bahamas. Our purpose is to promote and safeguard the science and practice of Nutrition and Dietetics and provide the standards by which the profession is governed in The Bahamas. Our objectives are to:
1. To set minimum professional criteria for Dietitians, Nutritionists and Dietary Technicians.
2. To stimulate, encourage and ensure proficiency among nutritionist, Dietitians and Dietary Technicians through defined activities of the Association.
3. To become a statutory body for promoting legislation affecting the regulation and practice of Nutrition and Dietetics through the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.
4. To monitor and safe-guard against the distribution and sale of products and/or information that are not the current state of the art in the practice of Nutrition.
5. To collaborate with other health professionals, professional organizations, government agencies, civic organizations, and non-profit agencies that are concerned with Nutrition Care and its promotion.
6. To affiliate this association with the regional and international Nutrition and Dietetic Professional Groups and Associations, or any organization that is concerned with Nutritional Care.
7. To collaborate with the Ministry of Education, the College of the Bahamas, and other educational institutions to provide career counseling and finance for perspective students.
8. To function as an advisory body to educators in the implementation of Nutrition Education in the school curriculum.
9. To collaborate with the Ministry of Health and Health Professions Council and other government agencies for the recognition of the profession of Nutrition and Dietetics through licensing. For the facilitation of job mobility and diversification for practicing Nutritionists and Dietitians.
