The Royal Bahamas Defense Force Ranger Program was first introduced in 1995 at the Donald Davis Secondary School as the Ranger Platoon. Its initial perception was to encourage and motivate male students at the junior high level to become productive members of their schools and society. Today, the Rangers have advanced from a simple project to a diversified youth organization, with more than 1000 participants successfully involved in the program, determined, With ‘discipline, dedication, determination’ as its motto, the programme is currently conducted in 38 public and private schools in New Providence and the Family Islands for students ranging in ages from 11 to 18 years. From its inception the program has sought to train and help students to develop into patriotic and productive citizens through character building. Recently, the focus of the program has evolved becoming more principle center and leadership centric promoting and emulating the core concepts of the Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the Rangers program. The Royal Bahamas Defence Force continues to uphold the initial objectives and to educate the students to strive for excellence. Instilling positive attitude towards self, others, law and order, community and National development remain its major goals. The program also provides the necessary ingredients for the development of students to become disciplined, well rounded, responsible and committed citizens. It also provides a means by which participants become knowledgeable through conservation efforts. These objectives are met through interaction with other positive youth groups, organized competitions, socials, camping trips, games, workshops, conference, seminars, community involvement, field trips, training (drill, first aid etc) and participation in most Royal Bahamas Defense Force activities.
