25 Years of Health Equity Tribute Song

In celebration of 25 remarkable years of the Bhutan Health Trust Fund, we are pleased to present our Silver Jubilee Tribute Song, officially premiered on silver jubilee celebration.
It is a heartfelt musical offering honoring the vision, compassion, and national commitment that have sustained free and uninterrupted access to essential medicines and vaccines for every Bhutanese.

Established in 2000 under the Royal Charter granted by our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck, on 3rd August 2000, the Fund stands as a priceless gift to the nation. Over the years, it has been financing 430 essential medicines and 4 vaccines, contributing to the elimination of polio, rubella, and measles, and safeguarding the health of our children and communities.

This song is dedicated to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo for his benevolent vision, to Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup for championing its establishment, and to every contributor, partner, and health champion whose unwavering support keeps this noble mission alive.

Bhutan Health Trust Fund: 25 Years of Health Equity and National Commitment
Yesterday, the Hon’ble Prime Minister and Hon’ble Health Minister joined the Bhutan Health Trust Fund’s Silver Jubilee celebrations —a landmark occasion that coincides with the 70th Birth Anniversary of our beloved Fourth Druk Gyalpo, His Majesty Jigme Singye Wangchuck whose benevolent vision and foresight gave birth to the Fund.
Formally established on 3rd August 2000 under the Royal Charter, the Bhutan Health Trust Fund (BHTF) continues to finance essential medicines and vaccines ensuring uninterrupted access to primary health services for Bhutanese from all walks of life, for all times.
As we celebrate the Silver Jubilee of BHTF, we offer our deepest gratitude to His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo for this priceless gift to the people of Bhutan, and to Lyonpo Sangay Ngedup, who rallied behind this noble vision to bring it to fruition.
Over the past 25 years, the Fund has disbursed over Nu. 3.7 billion, supporting the procurement of 430 essential medicines and four vaccines—contributing to Bhutan’s globally applauded high immunization coverage. It has not only helped keep our children healthy and disease free but also played a critical role in eliminating polio, rubella and measles. Annually, approximately Nu. 557 million is allocated for the procurement of essential drugs and vaccines.

The Fund’s strength is rooted in a visionary model: one that blends financial prudence with national solidarity. The resources are sustained through interest accrued from strategic investments, both locally and offshore, further supported by the 1% health contribution from our working citizens; and through generous donations from individuals and institutions. This matching mechanism is not merely financial—it is a reflection of our shared values and collective resolve. This partnership empowers us to innovate, to expand, and to deepen our impact.

His Excellency Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, Chairperson of the Bhutan Health Trust Fund (BHTF), graciously received a generous donation from the Association of Bhutanese in Perth Inc. (ABPI), Australia. The handing-over ceremony was graced by His Excellency and attended by the BHTF Secretariat. Mr. Chhimi Dorji, President of ABPI, and Mr. Tshering Phuntsho, the campaign coordinator, joined the event virtually.

The contribution was raised through a one-month, zero-expense fundraising campaign titled “AUD 10 for BHTF”, voluntarily initiated and coordinated by Mr. Tshering Phuntsho in collaboration with Abpi Perth. The campaign aimed to strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of BHTF, engage the Bhutanese diaspora in nation-building efforts, and raise awareness about the importance of shared responsibility for Bhutan’s healthcare system.

The Hon'ble Chairperson conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Tshering Phuntsho, Mr. Chhimi Dorji, president of ABPI, and the entire Bhutanese community in Perth, Australia for their unwavering support and solidarity. Their generosity significantly contributes to ensuring free and uninterrupted access to essential medicines and vaccines for all Bhutanese.

On behalf of the Bhutan Health Trust Fund (BHTF), His Excellency Lyonpo Tandin Wangchuk, Chairperson of BHTF, gratefully received a generous donation from the people of Trongsa Dzongkhag. The contribution was raised through the Health Walk held on 7th April, 2025, in celebration of World Health Day under the theme “Healthy Beginnings, Hopeful Futures.”
The event saw the active participation of over 150 individuals, including members of the business community, regional office staff, the Dratshang, teachers, students, Royal Bhutan Police personnel and local leaders. The Gups played a crucial role in the success of this initiative by effectively communicating the core message and purpose of the Bhutan Health Trust Fund, ultimately uniting the community through their generous contributions and ensuring inclusive participation. The walk, totaling 17.4 kilometers, was flagged off at Yid Zhin Throm by the Dzongdag, Dzongkhag Thrizin, and Dratshang Drungchen. Participants made their way to Thubtencholing Buddhist Lobdra and back, raising funds and promoting awareness on healthy living. Contributions were also collected from travelers along the route.
The day concluded with engaging health-related programs and a lively lottery draw, reinforcing community spirit and the shared goal of a healthier Bhutan.
The Chairperson extended his heartfelt appreciation to the Dzongdag, Thrizin, Public Health Officer, and the entire Trongsa community for their solidarity, dedication, and generous support. Their contribution will go a long way in ensuring the uninterrupted supply of essential drugs and vaccines, thereby sustaining primary health care services across the nation.
