A three-day multi-stakeholder consultation convened by ๐๐ก๐ ๐๐๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ซ๐๐ญ๐๐ซ๐ข๐๐ญ brought together partners committed to strengthening support for people living with severe and chronic mental illness in Bhutan.
More than a technical discussion, the gathering created a space for professionals from the Office of the Attorney General (OAG), Royal Bhutan Police (RBP), Judiciary of Bhutan and the ๐๐ฌ๐ฒ๐๐ก๐ข๐๐ญ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐๐๐ซ๐ฏ๐ข๐๐๐ฌ to come together with a shared purpose: ๐ฉ๐ค ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐ช๐ง๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐ฉ ๐๐ฃ๐๐๐ซ๐๐๐ช๐๐ก๐จ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐๐ข๐๐ก๐๐๐จ ๐๐๐๐๐ฃ๐ ๐ฉ๐๐ ๐๐๐๐ก๐ก๐๐ฃ๐๐๐จ ๐ค๐ ๐จ๐๐ซ๐๐ง๐ ๐ข๐๐ฃ๐ฉ๐๐ก ๐๐ก๐ก๐ฃ๐๐จ๐จ ๐๐ง๐ ๐ฃ๐ค๐ฉ ๐ก๐๐๐ฉ ๐ฉ๐ค ๐ฃ๐๐ซ๐๐๐๐ฉ๐ ๐ฉ๐๐๐๐ง ๐๐ค๐ช๐ง๐ฃ๐๐ฎ ๐๐ก๐ค๐ฃ๐.
The consultation focused on listening, learning, and reflecting on the realities faced by people living with chronic mental health conditions and the communities that support them. Participants reviewed the current systems, identified gaps, and explored practical ways to build stronger, more compassionate support networks that extend beyond institutions and into communities.
The consultation opened with inspiring remarks by Dasho Dechen Wangmo, Head of The PEMA Secretariat, who emphasized that caring for those living with severe and chronic mental illness is a collective responsibility. She highlighted that true progress will come when agencies and communities work togetherโcreating systems of care that are coordinated, compassionate, and rooted in Bhutanโs values of community and shared well-being.
With the consultation completed, with shared purpose, ๐ฃ๐๐ ๐ will take the recommendations forward to create a system of care for the people with severe mental health . ๐ฟ
