Due to the ongoing election result counting in West Bengal and Assam, the Royal Government of Bhutan has extended the closure of all international border gates till 6th May.

🚨 Important Travel Advisory for Border Areas 🚧

All international borders connecting Jalpaiguri district with Bhutan and Bangladesh will remain temporarily sealed from 6:00 AM on May 3, 2026, until completion of vote counting for the West Bengal Assembly Elections 2026.

During this period, general movement of people and vehicles will be strictly restricted. However, exemptions are allowed for medical emergencies entering India, tourists with valid documents, and vehicles carrying essential or perishable goods after proper checking. The order has been issued by the District Magistrate, Jalpaiguri, to ensure a smooth and secure counting process.

🚧 Traffic suspended in Phuentsholing Gewog after heavy rains severely damaged the Pachu wooden bridge. This bridge serves as an important alternative route connecting Denchukha Gewog. If it collapses, several Chiwogs in Phuentsholing and all areas of Denchukha Gewog will be forced to take a longer route via Logchina feeder road.

Traffic movement along Denchukha Dzongkhag Road has been temporarily suspended 🚧 due to risk of collapse of the Bailey bridge over the Toorsa River amid continuous heavy rainfall 🌧️ Authorities in Phuentsholing will begin restoration work once rainfall subsides and water levels decrease. Officials also informed that the temporary bridge was built using components from an old bridge, and have requested cooperation and understanding from all road users during this period.
