India, West Bengal: Massive Landslide between Jaigaon and Kalimpong / Sikkim route on NH10 near Birik Dara. This is after crossing Sevoke Coronation Bridge near Kalijhora. People heading to Sikkim or Kalimpong please take Gorubathan Lava route today. Thank you. 🙏 18 July 2025.

The Lava-Gorubathan road is also closed due to a landslide.

As the rain has stopped at Phaperkheti, police have coordinated with the Phaperkheti GREF team to begin debris removal to allow at least one-way traffic movement and passage for small vehicles. However, there is a risk of further landslides if it rains again.

No additional vehicles are being allowed from the Pandara Check Post, and the adjacent police stations and traffic outposts have been informed accordingly.

Sikkim Gangtok Sadar Police Station Rescues Mentally Unstable Bhutanese National; Reunites Him with Family After Six Months

On 08th July, PI Niraj Khatiwada, SHO Sadar Police Station, received a telephonic report regarding an elderly person found living in a destitute condition near Denzong Fatak. Responding swiftly, the team from Sadar PS rescued the individual and admitted him to Freedom Rehabilitation Centre for medical care and shelter.

Upon further inquiry, the person was identified as Sonam Topgay, 49 years old, a resident of Zhamgang District, Bhutan. It was revealed that he was mentally unstable and had arrived in Sikkim around six months ago to offer prayers at Chorten Monastery, Deorali, but had lost his way and failed to return home.

Today, with the assistance and coordination of Duars Expressmail NGO, Mr. Sonam Topgay is being safely repatriated to Bhutan and will be reunited with his family after a prolonged separation.

Gangtok District police extends sincere appreciation to Freedom Rehabilitation Centre for their compassionate care and support during Mr. Topgay’s stay, and to Duars Expressmail NGO for their pivotal role in facilitating his safe return home.

BHUTAN: Flu-Like Outbreak Hits DeSuung Camp – 2 Lives Lost, Several Critical

A flu-like outbreak has affected Bhutan’s 69th DeSuung training batch. Unfortunately, two lives have been lost, and two others remain in critical condition. So far, 51 DeSuups have shown symptoms, and 110 are under isolation. An investigation is currently underway.
