Weโ€™re Still Observing Brain Injury Awareness Month ๐Ÿง 

As we continue to raise awareness this March, letโ€™s talk about something just as important as understanding head injuries prevention.

Many brain injuries can be prevented with simple, everyday actions:

๐Ÿš— Wear your seatbelt โ€“ Whether youโ€™re driving or a passenger
๐Ÿ๏ธ Use helmets โ€“ Especially when riding bikes, motorbikes, or engaging in sports
๐Ÿšถ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™‚๏ธ Stay alert on the road โ€“ Avoid distractions like texting while walking or driving
๐Ÿ  Prevent falls at home โ€“ Keep floors dry, ensure good lighting, and watch out for hazards
๐Ÿบ Avoid substance use when driving โ€“ Alcohol and drugs increase risk of accidents

The Valor Mental Health Foundation team is currently facilitating Mental Health in the Workplace employee group sessions for Uncharted Africa Safaris.

These sessions create a safe space for employees to openly explore how mental health challenges can quietly show up in the workplace through communication breakdowns, emotional withdrawal, fatigue, reduced productivity, conflict, trust difficulties and strained teamwork.

Through guided conversations, the sessions also help employees understand how personal experiences, unresolved trauma, stress, grief and emotional triggers can influence how people respond to pressure, authority, expectations and relationships at work.

By creating room for honest dialogue around emotional wellbeing, coping patterns and regulation, these sessions aim to strengthen both individual wellbeing and healthier team dynamics.

We commend Uncharted Africa Safaris for intentionally investing in the mental and emotional wellbeing of their employees. Leadership that prioritises people creates healthier, more resilient workplaces.

Mental health conversations in the workplace are no longer optional: they are essential for sustainable productivity, supportive environments and thriving teams.

When the economy is struggling, mental health often struggles too.

Unemployment, financial pressure, debt, rising living costs and uncertainty about the future can quietly affect emotional wellbeing.

Many people may begin to experience:

โ€ข hopelessness
โ€ข low self-esteem
โ€ข anxiety about the future
โ€ข sleep difficulties
โ€ข emotional exhaustion
โ€ข relationship conflict
โ€ข depression

For many young people, not working is not just about income, it can also affect identity, confidence, purpose and hope and most young people not working are paying with their mental heath at home.

When opportunities feel limited, emotional pain can sometimes show up as anger, withdrawal, irritability, substance use or feeling disconnected from others.

This is why mental health conversations matter even more during difficult economic times.
People need safe spaces, understanding, support and healthy ways to cope. ๐Ÿค

A struggling economy affects more than finances: it affects hearts, minds, families and communities.

People may self-harm to:
