Sometimes, itโ€™s not the world holding you back, itโ€™s you.

Self-sabotage shows up when you delay starting, cancel on yourself, stay in toxic spaces or convince yourself youโ€™re not ready. But guess what? You are ready. You just got comfortable with survival and forgot what thriving feels like.

โœจ Healing starts when you:
โ€ข Call yourself out without shame
โ€ข Replace fear with action
โ€ข Learn that discomfort is part of growth
โ€ข Ask for support when your inner critic gets loud

You donโ€™t have to navigate it alone. At Valor, weโ€™re here to support your journey, whether itโ€™s through therapy, group support, or simply knowing someone is in your corner. ๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ“Œ Whatโ€™s one way youโ€™ve unknowingly self-sabotaged? Letโ€™s talk about it in the comments.

๐ŸŒฟ Holiday Check-In๐ŸŒฟ

The holidays are often seen as a time of joy, rest and togetherness but for many, they can also be a time of emotional heaviness.

Some people feel more okay while at work where thereโ€™s structure, distraction and a sense of purpose. Being home, with extra time and fewer distractions, can bring up unhealed emotions, loneliness, anxiety or even grief.

If this sounds like you, please know you are not alone.

๐Ÿ’š Are you okay?
Itโ€™s okay if the answer is โ€œnot really.โ€ Itโ€™s okay if youโ€™re not feeling festive. Itโ€™s okay to miss routine or to feel unsettled.

This holiday, we encourage you to pause, breathe and check in with yourself:

๐Ÿ”น What emotions are coming up for me right now?
๐Ÿ”น Who can I reach out to for support?
๐Ÿ”น What small act of care can I offer myself today?

Your mental health matters every day, not just on the productive ones.

โœจ Take care of your mind. Take care of your heart. And if you need someone to talk to, we are here for you.

Minority Tuesday:

Today on Minority Tuesday, we shine a spotlight on the mental health experiences within diverse communities. Many minorities face unique challenges such as cultural stigma, discrimination, and limited access to mental health resources, which can impact their well-being.

Itโ€™s crucial to recognize these barriers and advocate for inclusive mental health services that respect cultural differences.
Letโ€™s break the stigma, promote understanding, and create safe spaces where everyone feels empowered to seek help. Together, we can foster a more supportive and equitable environment for mental health.๐Ÿซ‚๐Ÿ’š

๐Ÿ“ข VALOR MENTAL HEALTH FOUNDATION AT SHANGANANI CJSS

VALOR Mental Health Foundation had the privilege of honouring an invitation from Shanganani CJSS to host a mental health seminar on 15 July 2025.

During this engaging seminar, participants explored vital topics, including:
โ€ข Understanding mental health and wellness
โ€ข Common mental health challenges in schools
โ€ข Recognising burnout and fatigue
โ€ข Understanding trauma in learners
โ€ข Practical stress management tools
โ€ข Building a workplace mental health culture
โ€ข Basics of mental health first aid

Facilitated by Ms Charlotte Ruwona, the seminar also featured an open dialogue session, where attendees shared experiences and asked important questions.

โœจ We extend our sincere gratitude to Shanganani CJSS for recognising the importance of mental health and for creating space to engage on these critical issues. At VALOR, we remain committed to supporting schools and communities in promoting mental well-being.

We often talk about mental health as if itโ€™s something only adults wrestle with, but the real battlefield is in our schools ๐Ÿ˜ญin the hearts and minds of our children. I sit with these students, I listen to them and I hear stories that make my heart ache. Stories of pain. Of neglect. Of abandonment. Of being silenced. Of being made to feel invisible in their own homes.

Yes, I said it. When do we start charging parents for negligence?not just legally, but morally, socially, emotionally? Because what Iโ€™m seeing is heartbreaking: children who are clearly suffering while the adults who brought them into this world are nowhere to be found.

Bathong bana ba sokola. Children are suffering, silently, deeply and dangerously. And while they try to find their place in the world, some of the very people meant to protect and nurture them are the ones who have hurt them the most.

Mothers, I say this with love but also with firmness: you cannot keep choosing men over your children. A child cannot and should not be expected to raise themselves because โ€œyouโ€™re in love.โ€ Protect your children. Shield them. Love them more than you love being chosen by someone who does not even see their value. Some of the deepest wounds Iโ€™ve seen in students were not caused by strangers, but by decisions their mothers made, choices that prioritized relationships over responsibility.

And to the absent fathers:
Why abandon your kids?
Why disappear? Why cause a wound so deep it creates a lifetime of self-doubt, insecurity and emotional trauma? Being a father is not just about biology: itโ€™s about presence, commitment, love and guidance. Too many children are walking around with a smile on their face but a question in their heart: โ€œWhy wasnโ€™t I enough for him to stay?โ€

We canโ€™t talk about empowering the next generation without talking about the foundations weโ€™re giving them.
It starts at home.
It starts with parents showing up.
It starts with us saying no more silence and no more neglect.

We owe our children more than this.

Letโ€™s do better. Please.

Building a mentally healthy culture within the camp community is not just important, itโ€™s essential for everyoneโ€™s overall well-being.

Our team at Valor Mental Health Foundation is facilitating a series of powerful sessions for Uncharted Africa Safari Camps in Botswana, focusing on:

๐Ÿ”น Recognizing the signs of burnout and fatigue
๐Ÿ”น Exploring practical strategies for managing stress
๐Ÿ”น Addressing mental health in the workplace
๐Ÿ”น Understanding how childhood trauma can manifest in adulthood and within professional environments

Through these open and intentional conversations, weโ€™re helping to foster a culture where support, communication and self-care are not just encouraged but woven into the fabric of everyday work life.

When we prioritize mental wellness, we donโ€™t just prevent burnout, we nurture resilience, deepen connection and build long-term sustainability within teams.

Letโ€™s continue to create safe, empowering spaces where individuals can thrive, mentally, emotionally and professionally.
