WORLD ASTHMA DAY
May 5, 2026

Today is World Asthma Day.

And for some people…
breathing isn’t always easy.

It’s the tightness you can’t explain.
The where that won’t go away.
The feeling of not getting enough air, no matter how hard you try.

It’s carrying an inhaler everywhere.
Checking triggers before going places.
Knowing one small thing can turn into a big problem.

And the hardest part?

Most people don’t see it.
So they don’t realize how serious it is.

Asthma isn’t “just” anything.
It’s real.
It’s scary.
And it affects everyday life.

So today,
pay attention.
Have compassion.
Take it seriously .

Because breathing should be easy…
but for some, it never is.

On World Asthma Day, let’s spread awareness about asthma, support those affected, and encourage timely treatment for a healthier future.

Together, we can create a world where everyone breathes freely.

MICURE CLINIC JOINS UB SCHOOL OF NURSING IN COMMUNITY HEALTH OUTREACH

Micure Clinic recently took part in a community health outreach programme organised by nursing students from the University of Botswana (UB), reaffirming its commitment to corporate social responsibility (CSR) and community wellness.

The outreach was held at Ledumang Kgotla in Broadhurst and brought together various healthcare stakeholders to provide essential health services to members of the community.

The initiative primarily focused on raising awareness about Tuberculosis (TB), a persistent public health concern in Botswana and globally. Community members were sensitised on TB prevention, symptoms, treatment adherence, and the importance of early diagnosis.
In addition to TB education, the outreach offered a range of free health screening services. These included TB screening, blood pressure checks for hypertension, and other related health assessments aimed at promoting early detection and encouraging proactive healthcare practices.

Micure Clinic joined other health service providers in delivering screenings and health education, contributing professional expertise and medical support throughout the day. The clinic’s participation underscored the importance of collaboration between private healthcare providers, academic institutions, and community structures in strengthening primary healthcare delivery.

By engaging directly with residents at the kgotla, organisers ensured that health services were accessible and culturally grounded, fostering trust and encouraging open dialogue about health concerns.

March 24 marks World Tuberculosis (TB) Day.

The 2026 global theme is “ Yes! We can end TB. Led by countries. Powered by communities.” - signifying the collective action needed from governments, organizations and communities to reduce TB rates.

Although TB is preventable and treatable , it remains one of the world’s leading causes of death from an infectious disease.

Visit the nearest clinic to get tested if you:

•Have symptoms such as persistent cough (lasting 3+ weeks), fever, night sweats and weight loss;

•Are a close contact to a TB patient, or

•Belong to a high risk group.

Awareness, testing, and early treatment are key to stopping it.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.

Colorectal cancer affects the colon or re**um and is the 3rd most common cancer worldwide, responsible for about 10% of all cancer cases. It is also the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths globally.

📈 The risk increases after age 50, but cases are rising among younger adults in some countries. Early stages often have few or no symptoms, which makes awareness and screening important.

Possible warning signs include:

🩸 blood in the stool
🥲 persistent abdominal pain or bloating
📉 unexplained weight loss
🥱 fatigue
💩 changes in bowel habits

The good news? Many cases can be prevented or detected early.

🥦 Eat more fruits and vegetables
🏃 Stay physically active
🚭 Avoid to***co
⚖️ Maintain a healthy weight
🍷 Limit alcohol

If symptoms appear, talk to a health professional early. Detecting colorectal cancer early greatly improves survival.

🌍World Obesity Day 2026

💪Obesity is a complex health condition, not just a matter of willpower. It is also largely preventable and manageable with the right support.

Prevention starts early:

👶 During pregnancy: healthy weight gain supports long-term child health.

🍼 In infancy: exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months helps reduce future risk.

🏃 In childhood: encourage daily movement, balanced diet and good sleep habits.

For adults, prevention includes:

🧁 Limit fats and sugars
🥗 Eat more vegetables and fruit
🚰 Drink enough water
🚶‍♀️ Regular physical activity (any is better than none!)
📵 Limit screen time
🛌 Get enough sleep

Creating supportive communities where healthy choices are accessible and affordable is essential.
