On Friday, 12 December 2025, BVI Staff came together for our annual Staff Christmas Party, rocking the unforgettable theme of 90’s Hip Hop 🧢🎧. From bold outfits to smooth moves, our team truly showed up and showed out 💃🏽🕺🏽.

The day began with our Quarterly Staff Meeting, before the Christmas Party celebration. In his remarks, Our Chief Executive Officer , Mr. Andrew Madeswi extended heartfelt gratitude to all staff for their dedication and commitment throughout the year, reminding us that the true rhythm of BVI is powered by its people 🙌🏽💉🐄.

🏇 Celebrating Excellence at the Premier Champions Cup

BVI extends heartfelt congratulations to the winners of the BVI-Sponsored Thoroughbred 1200m Race at the Premier Champions Cup held in Samedupi this past weekend: Salamina, Captain, Earl of Gardigan, and Big Spender.

The event , organised by TT Horse Racing and Livestock, was also graced by the Honourable Minister of Youth and Gender Affairs, Ms. Lesego Chombo.

During the official opening, our Chief Executive Officer Mr. Andrew Madeswi underscored the critical role of vaccination in disease prevention, the importance of proper animal care and welfare, and the risks associated with neglect. He also reaffirmed BVI’s commitment to supporting the equine industry through the local manufacture of the necessary vaccines.

BVI remains proud to champion animal health.

Ahead of tomorrow’s Champions Cup Horse Race in Samedupi, BVI joined the Botswana Horse Racing Association in Maun for an educational workshop aimed at empowering equestrians,farmers and stakeholders.

Representing BVI, Dr Tshenolo Pebe presented on “Comprehensive Animal Health, Welfare Standards, Disease Awareness & Prevention,” with a special focus on the unique health and welfare needs of racehorses. He highlighted the importance of disease prevention, vaccination, and strong biosecurity to keep racehorses safe, healthy, and competitive.

The workshop also featured presentations from other organizations like the Gambling Authority, Botswana National Sports Commission, and Botswana Tourism Organisation.

Benin Delegation Visits BVI

On 10 December 2025, the BVI proudly welcomed a delegation from Benin. The visit was received by Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Andrew Madeswi, underscoring the valued partnership that exists between BVI and Benin in advancing animal health.

The BVI showcased its mission, contribution and impact, dedicated to the provision of sustainable animal health solutions through research, production, technical support,and supply of high quality vaccines for the control of transboundary animal diseases. The delegation was further taken through BVI’s role in safeguarding regional and global livestock health, supporting communities and livelihoods, export readiness, and delivering innovative solutions that strengthen food security and trade.

The Benin delegation, led by Ms. Roukayath Chabi Toko, highlighted their country’s priorities in livestock management. They emphasized the importance of Botswana’s expertise in livestock vaccine production, disease control and traceability systems.

The World Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) Awareness Commemoration held in Palapye brought together key leaders across sectors to reaffirm Botswana’s commitment to combating AMR through a One Health approach. Guided by the 2025 theme, “Act Now: Protect Our Present, Secure Our Future,”

In attendance were Assistant Minister of Lands and Agriculture, Hon. Dr Edwin Dikoloti, Minister of Health, Hon. Dr Steven Modise and Assistant Minister of Local Government and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Ignitious Moswaane. Collectively they highlighted the urgent need for coordinated action across animal health, human health, and the environment. They called for reduced misuse of antibiotics in livestock, responsible antibiotic use in humans, strengthened infection prevention, accurate diagnosis, and improved community awareness. Their shared message highlighted that preventing AMR requires prioritizing vaccination, sanitation, biosecurity, proper professional guidance, and sustainable health practices at all levels.

BVI CEO, Mr. Andrew Madeswi, emphasised that responsible livestock management, anchored in vaccination, remains key to sustainable production and long-term AMR mitigation.
