𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗔𝘀𝗸𝗲𝗱 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗙𝗔𝗤𝘀)
Following the recent pronouncement by the Minister of Health Hon. Dr Stephen Modise that Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital is transitioning to a public hospital to amongst others, decongest Princess Marina Hospital.
𝟭.𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁?
The transition process has commenced and will be implemented in phases. Services will continue throughout this period, with updates shared as key milestones are reached.
𝟮.𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗹?
The transition entails moving some specialist clinics from Princess Marina Hospital to SKMTH and opening up SKMTH access to the public through the existing public health referral pathways.
𝟯. 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗻𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗴𝗼 𝘁𝗼 𝗦𝗞𝗠𝗧𝗛 𝗶𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗸?
For emergencies, the hospital will receive and assist patients at its Accident and Emergency Department. However, for specialist services, as happens with all referral health facilities, patients will have to be referred by the attending Doctor/Hospital.
𝟰. 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗽𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗻 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻?
Yes. SKMTH remains fully operational. Patients can continue to access services as usual while the transition is underway.
𝟱. 𝗪𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗱𝗶𝘀𝗿𝘂𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀?
No major disruptions are expected. Some administrative processes may change over time, but clinical services will continue. Any service adjustments will be communicated.
𝟲. 𝗖𝗮𝗻 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘄𝗮𝗹𝗸 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁?
Yes. Emergency cases are assisted at the Accident and Emergency Department. However, as a referral hospital, patients requiring specialist services are advised to follow the normal government referral process of first seeing the local health facility which will then refer to Sir Ketumile Masire Teaching Hospital, if need be.
𝟳. 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗳𝗶𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀?
The transition will:
•Improve access to public healthcare services
•Strengthen specialised and referral care
•Enhance resource utilisation and efficiency
