What is Molluscum Contagiosum?

Molluscum Contagiosum is a viral skin infection most commonly seen in young and school-age children. It appears as small, flesh-coloured to pink bumps with a shiny surface and a slightly depressed centre and can show up anywhere on the body.

The bumps are painless but may be itchy, and can persist for several months to sometimes years. Scratching or picking at them spreads the virus to other parts of the body and to those around you. Children with existing skin conditions like eczema are particularly susceptible.

Once diagnosed, several treatment options are available. See your dermatologist for the right plan for your child.
