World Health Organization Botswana COUNTRY OFFICE DONATES LABORATORY CONSUMABLES TO BoMRA
The Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) today received a donation of laboratory consumables from the World Health Organization (WHO) Country Office, reaffirming WHO’s continued support as BoMRA’s strategic technical partner.
The donation was officially handed over during a courtesy visit by the WHO Country Office, led by the Officer-in-Charge, Dr. Moagi Gaborone, to BoMRA headquarters. The donated laboratory consumables are intended to strengthen and capacitate the BoMRA Laboratory thereby enhancing its ability to effectively and efficiently execute its regulatory mandate.
Welcoming the WHO delegation, Dr. Seima Dijeng, Chief Executive Officer of BoMRA, and the BoMRA Senior Management expressed appreciation for WHO’s unwavering support and partnership. He emphasized that WHO remains one of BoMRA’s strongest and most reliable partners. “WHO has consistently responded to BoMRA’s calls whenever support is needed. As we forge ahead, this partnership is critical as BoMRA works towards achieving WHO Global Benchmarking Tool (GBT) Maturity Level 3,” Dr. Dijeng stated.
Speaking during the handover, Mr. Gaborone highlighted that the donation forms part of WHO’s ongoing commitment to building regulatory capacity in Botswana. “This donation is aimed at equipping and capacitating the BoMRA Laboratory to effectively conduct its core functions and support BoMRA in fulfilling its mandate as a medicines regulatory authority,” he said.
Receiving the laboratory consumables on behalf of BoMRA, Ms. Zukiswa Raditladi, Director of Licensing and Enforcement, expressed gratitude to WHO for its continued assistance. She noted that the donation comes at a crucial time when the BoMRA Laboratory is still strengthening its operational capacity. “This support will enable the Laboratory to effectively carry out its functions, particularly during periods of increased demand. The donation is also a timely development following the Laboratory’s accreditation by SADCAS to ISO/IEC 17025, which is essential in supporting our laboratory mandate,” Ms. Raditladi said.
BoMRA remains committed to strengthening its regulatory systems to ensure the safety, quality, and efficacy of medicines and medical products in Botswana, with continued support from partners such as the World Health Organization.
