Myth #3: All fats are bad

We have seen how fats have such a bad rep in the world because we see how a low-fat diet can benefit everyone, but what matters is the types of fats in our diet.

While certain types of fats, including saturated and trans fats, can increase your risk for conditions like heart disease or stroke, healthy fats — like monounsaturated fats (found in olive and other plant oils, avocados, and certain nuts and seeds) and polyunsaturated fats (found in sunflower and other plant oils, walnuts, fish and flaxseeds) — actually help reduce your risk. Good fats are also important for supplying energy, producing important hormones, supporting cell function, and aiding in the absorption of some nutrients.

Myth #2: Carbs are the enemy

I think there has been a slight misunderstanding on the way carbohydrates are used by the body and what goes on when we all ingest it.
This myth may spring from carbs’ effect on insulin. Eating carbohydrates raises your blood glucose (your blood sugar) and prompts your body to release insulin. This redirects your glucose to cells.
It's usually the type of quantity of carbohydrates eaten but not the carbohydrates themselves, so there are some carbs that contain excess calories and sugar.

Examples include desserts, white bread, rice and pasta, and snack foods like chips, crackers and pretzels. These refined carbs are stripped of the outside grain, which contains fiber and some protein, making glucose (sugar) levels spike quickly.
Carbs that contain fiber (like brown rice) or protein (like legumes) raise blood glucose more slowly, require less insulin and keep you full longer. But even complex carbs like whole grains, beans and fresh fruit should be eaten in moderation.

For weight loss, a basic rule of thumb is to limit your carb intake to about 1 cup per meal (about the size of a coffee mug or woman’s fist)

Myth #1: Eating healthy is very expensive

Have you ever heard of people complaining about how expensive certain vegetables and herbs are? You have heard people rant about how it's been hard for them to catch up with the costs? In reality, eating a full balanced diet on a low budget is more than possible.

Healthy eating can be affordable. Many healthy foods are very inexpensive, including beans, lentils, and other plant-based proteins. Hence, healthy and sustainable eating habits were up to 22-34% less expensive in a study, with vegetarian and vegan dietary patterns being the most affordable. Yet, some of these ingredients are unfamiliar to some shoppers, limiting their ability to make healthy eating affordable.

There are many ways to keep your healthy eating within your budget. Like and follow our page for more posts in the future.
