This week is Cervical Screening Awareness Week, a week to raise awareness about the importance of regular cervical screening for women and people with a cervix.
Cervical screening is essential to detect abnormal changes in the cervix early, and allow for timely treatment.
Cervical screening currently prevents 70% of cervical cancer deaths in England, but if everyone eligible attended screening regularly, 83% of deaths caused by cervical cancer could be prevented.
Recently, NHS England announced that from 1 July 2025 all women and people with a cervix of screening age (25-64) will be invited for screening every five years in England rather than three. If they are at a higher risk of cervical cancer because of high-risk Human papillomavirus (HPV) and/or cell changes, then they will be seen more often.
If you have been invited for cervical screening and are feeling worried, or have questions about the recent changes, the Eve Appeal have prepared some useful resources on their website. Read more: https://brnw.ch/21wTzF4
